In looking again it appears your snares do not have cable all the way back to the point of fastening. If your swivel fails (gets plugged with debris or freezes with ice) your snare will quickly break loose and the mink take off with a snare around his neck. With mink snares ALWAYS run cable all the way to your fastening point. Even if I can get them to flop off the bank into the water and drown I still use cable all the way. Eric

Thanks alot Eric space for the info, I love learning new things as I am new to this. The snares with the wire were just something I was trying out.

The barrel swivels look real reliable and make a clean looking snare. I made a swivel bender and went crazy with it. That's the swivels shown above. What a great tool

1/16 7x7 loaded. Low pro lock or bmi mini

One more snare question. What is a loaded snare? I see most snare for sale are 3/32 not 1/6 for mink does that make that big of difference?

I think snaring for mink works great but I went back to 155 body grips on dry land. Have a horrible time with raptors around here and lost more mink to them in snares as they bounce around more.
I get the BG s set in the brushy runs and they don't move. Same with rats if you don't get them under water, there's a good chance the birds will ruin them.

This set up is a 12" angle iron stake(holds the snare support wire). 9" of 1/16" 7x7 - barrel swivel - 1/16" quick link - 9" cable - wire swivel(or barrel) - 14" of loaded cable with wammy and bmi mini lock modified.
NOTE: barrel swivel near stake is put out comission by grass and fozen mud

No that swivel is actually grawes bullet lock used for a swivel. Works pretty good.
