Skin it and finish it then you will get $20 and only have another hour into it.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Neck hair should be a couple inches long. Looks like gaurd hair is missing.
Wish I had more time to trap....

The neck looks a bit loose and open in the guard hair and the underfur looks weak.If the rest is good from the neck back its worth more than $2.Hard to say from the pics what the whole skin looks like. Burrs were in the neck right?

The burrs (not very many) were on the neck. Maybe I combed it too aggressively.

I just went in the garage & took this picture: My dad thinks it looks like a beauty, & he might home tan it for his house. I'm trying to learn from this. I thought I was decent at evaluating fur, apparently not. I didn't expect a carcass animal to bring high dollar, but we were surprised it got downgraded so severely due to this neck.

I'm glad I didn't part with it for $2. That offer was an insult in my opinion. I must have caught him in a bad mood. If I don't do the put-up myself next time, I think we'll take it to Wiebke.

Who offered you $2.00 for that yote? I got $2.00 for a coyote I shouldn't have skinned. That coyote Is starting to break It's what normally happens at this time of year. Other then the neck It looks like a pretty good coyote to me.

His name was Guy. When I inquired to him on the $2 offer, the thing he seemed to focus on was the bad neck hair. He has the right to reject or offer whatever he needs to offer, in order to make $. I guess I was caught off guard, and so I appreciate your input on what he might have meant by 'bad neck.' This seems to be what yotes look like in my area, I don't know. 'Guess I will just focus on nuisance trapping.

I guess I missed the part where It was a carcass coyote. That will also bring the price down.

Keep on trapping til you have scratched your “itch”. Some of the yotes in your area probably will be starting to break down, but not all by any means. Good luck and keep on having fun! That is what really matters.

That is what really matters. Thanks but it is hard to have fun as frustrated as I was yesterday. I'm probably going to focus on my own 130 acres, as well as nuisance calls.

The best way to learn, is to put that coyote up and see what it looks like finished. A buyer that has looked at thousands pelts, sees things differently than an individual that hasn't. Any chance to learn should be taken.

Any chance to learn should be taken. I thought about that, but imagine how high my frustration would have been if I had spent all the time skinning/fleshing/stretching only to later find out the buyer didn't want it
