Not a good caliber for her.Her shots tend to be a little off.I want a heavier round for her. then I'd go for a .260 Rem or 7-08 or .257 Robts. or even a 6.5x55 or 7x57 if ya stumbled onto a great deal on either they all only burn 3/4 the powder of an '06 yet get great DEADLY ballistics IME.

Bruce, I honestly think your wife would benefit far more if you took the money you’d spend on a new gun and spend it on a quality shooting instructor to teach her how to shoot more precisely. Good shot placement makes any rifle an effective one. If you could get my wife to listen to anyone.......your hired......

reloaders may not care for 350 legend because in someone's wisdom they speced it at .355 not .357 where more bullet selection is available
the 124 147gr bullets intended for a pistol aren't really up to the task of being a medium game round in a rifle 2000fps when 1100fps is where they were designed to expand
the 170gr bullets however are purpose built for hunting and have a much better record for good kills
a 170gr at 1800fps puts you very close to 35 Remington just with the .355 bullet not a .358
I suspect a 356 sizing die and some lube would make a .358 bullet small enough to load decent in a legend.
there are getting to be more .355 rifle bullets made but of course everything gun is unobtanium right now. heck even musket caps

I'm guessing that in Maine you aren't planning on 400 yard shots. I'd look at the 243. Thanks but will be Kansas and states around there. You will have long range shooting opportunities about anywhere in Kansas and the farther west the longer shots that will be available.

I'm getting around 2200 fps. with factory 170 gr Hornady loads out of a 18 1/2" barrel.

Shooting problems come from shooting a gun/caliber that is perfect for somebody else, Puttin them on a 08 or 06 without breaking them in on a 22 or other small rounds so they have some glimmer of what to expect and not using ear protection Hunters that use a 350 around here are happy with the perfomance No surprise to anyone who has used 35's for deer

I would only look at the 350 if I lived in a state that only allowed straight walled case rifles. If you can use regular tapered case rifles, there are numerous better cartridges. I always consider ammo availability and cost when selecting a rifle. Very True I keep the calibers limited with multiple firearms that use them

I picked up a 350 Legend Savage Axis with a Weaver scope for under $200 after rebate in 2019. Didn't really need it since on private land in Indiana we can just about anything, but for the price I couldn't pass it up . My thought was it would make an excellent light weight, low recoil, accurate, deer rifle for my daughter. For the wooded areas around us, out to 200 yards it's perfect. We had being useing the ol' 30-06, but really overkill for the average range of 50 to 100 ydrs. Plus 350 FMJ are cheap to shot for practice. She shot a nice buck at 130 yds. , quartered away, opening day with Hornady 170 gr soft point, deer went 20 yds. and dropped.
Reloaders hate it, guys with 30-30's and 35 Rem hate it, guys who hate anything new hate it ; but it still kills deer dead out to 150 to 200 yds. with low recoil and muzzle blast. I have a 30 30 and a .35 Rem, why would I hate a 350 legend? And GCP I do have a standing offer to buy a unneeded 7mm 08 It is in a NEF Handy Rifle, not familiar at all that round. How does it reference to a 308? Is it a niche round? how about coyote use? Sorry for highjack just got curious about 7mm .08 mentioned.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!
