As always great pictures and darn nice moose sheds . Have you given any more though on carving some more horn ?

Enjoy the trip out to the cabin and Stay Safe even if you don't want to ha ha !

Great pics JR, and as much as I love the colours of those overflows, the artist in me is intrigued with the glacial blues (my favorite blue) and translucent beauty of them, I would be nervous traversing them . Love to see them though.

My enjoyment of the art of multi dimension of the land is never ending . Thank you for the share.

I would say Stacey is a keeper if she is willing to work that hard and endure the overflow, sounds like she is a great partner for you. Good luck this week!

I enjoy all of your videos JR, even the rant towards the end of the snares and skis video.

Good evening trappers... came off the line this afternoon with some fur. Shot a 26 pound tom lynx at the mouth of the canyon on the way in. That was a good start. Still not seeing any wolf sign. The coyotes are on to me, I snuck in a couple snares across from the cabin so we'll see how that works. I had two lynx that were eating baits and not tripping the traps so I hung a couple snares and that snagged one.

Picked this pretty little gal up on a cubby behind the cabin where I caught the first red fox. Lots of chain and she made it up in the tree.

Yesterday, I picked this guy up. 29# male. The calmest wolverine I'd ever saw. He let me take a couple pics before doing what wolverine do. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
That pretty much made my trip right there. On down the line as I came out to the river, a big ol lynx was ambling off my bait giving me plenty of time for a shot. I dropped the ball. I'll get him later.

The weather and views were exceptional [Linked Image]

The snow was leaving fast on some parts of the line [Linked Image]

Stacey and I boarded the 3 lynx and the wolverine tonight. Head back out this weekend after I send some #9's out the door. Good luck and be safe out there.

JR and Stacey congratulations on another successful run on the trap line as always the scenery is spectacular and the wolverine has some great color as does the lynx !
As for the Snow it's similar to what we have , the Wind drifted what we had in the coulee's and filled in the low spots .
I hope you get more snow and cold , we're at -8 at the moment .
Stay Safe out there !
Allan

Really liked the details on that wolverine, JR. I prefer the darker ones, myself. Appreciate the showing of the toes and movements of the pads . All those close ups are great.

Thank you .

JR, you are spot on, we all should be members of our local trappers association , and the sportsman's alliance. There are plenty of people out there who want to stop trapping. We need a consolidated, loud voice to counter them. Good luck out there.

Good tip on the skis. I will point out that I actually put Pilot skis on a couple older Skidoos, back when they didn't steer worth a dang. That deep keel does catch on crust, frozen ruts, rocks and trees and can really throw you, but on the older machines that didn't steer well that deep keel helped catch snow and caused them to steer slightly better. Also put them on a couple with the "blown" plastic skis that came factory, those "blown" skis wouldn't hold up a season for me, they don't wear well on anything but powder. The new skidoos steer so much better though that the deep keel is probably unnecessary, and while I've never actually went Over the handlebars, I have taken the handlebars in the gut before when a ski caught, or had the machine go sideways and buck me off the side.

Good morning Trappers. Came off the line yesterday for a ATA board meeting. Well.... my little membership rant as soft as it was, went over very well. Gaining new ATA members everyday. It was not meant only for the Alaska Trappers Association but for National Trappers Association and your local trapping Associations as well. This isn't a spectator's sport people, there's plenty for everyone, join today
As I came down SMG with Stacey, that big ol tom lynx was sitting out on the river protecting the bait. I wanted Stacey to shoot it and she didn't want to. I grabbed the .204 and took careful aim at 50 yards. Click. dadnabit .... rack the bolt again, Click. Here we go again.. 3 times before I throw off my glove and bang at 75 yards. Never had this issue before last week. Shot many times with gloves on. Anyway.... got a huge tom. He had been laying protecting that bait from the coyotes and ravens. Had a nest melted into the snow and ice by the bait. [Linked Image]
Worked our way on up the trail and hadn't cut any sign until a mile and a half up from my cabin. Cut 3 wolf tracks crossing the trail. With anticipation building, we rounded the corner and seen the circle. This is a post that Stacey and I set a couple weeks ago on a big rock with a big steel weight for a drag. The pup was able to drag it 35 yards away in the shallow snow on ice before wrapping the chain on some alder. [Linked Image]

68# gray female in AK#9.

On up the trail, with nothing more in the gear, it was picture time. [Linked Image]

Took Stacey to the truck Sunday evening and hauled a load of freight back in. Picked up another nice lynx in the first set of the season. Finally, I cannot believe how little sign there was at the beginning of the line.Nice tom with both feet in a #3 Bridger [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Back out on the Wood had me second guessing my decision to lay gear. There is little sign over on my side so go where the wolves are....

[Linked Image]
That overflow and open water had me tense enough to abandon the mission and wait for colder temps. Not sure where all the wolves went but just not seeing much sign on my entire line. On a good note,, cut a fresh little wolverine track on the creek on my way out yesterday. Thinking it was a female judging by the small print so I hope I don't catch her. Got to pull some fur off the boards today and put some more on. [Linked Image]
