Good looking wolf! Hope you figure the gun problem out, nothing worse in the world then pulling that trigger and hearing that very distinctive "click"! Glad you connected with him though! Hope the weather gets colder for you and the wolves move into your area! Thanks for sharing!

That's a big lynx! Nice pictures too! I really like the lone wolf in trap looking at the camera.

Nice shots once again, JR. I cringe though, every time in a video, when I hear the changing crunch of your feet on overflow banks ...when it becomes that hollow sound , you can just imagine the change underneath...that particular sound always catches my attention from feeling/hearing it myself along waterway treks.

As soon as I saw that sooty coloured wuff I thought immediately what a close up of him would be, scrolling down, sure enough, there he was. I may just borrow that reference close up for a future wuff commission .

Thanks for the share ...and watch that hollow crunch sound !

Nice tom! That overflow and open water would sure get my attention also. Hope it freezes up for you with this cold snap.

What bullets are you using in your .204? Just picked one up and haven't played with it much.

Also what mods did you make to your Bridger #3's? Looks like you welded the jaws up so they don't pop out.

Maybe a hovercraft huh Larry?

Sharon.... That sound walking on the overflow isn't for the faint of heart for sure. If the sound doesn't make ya nervous, you are to shouldn't be out there. I've got a few good close ups of the wolf for ya.

broncoformudv....I shoot 40 grain v-max handloads out of the .204. They have treated me well on everything except this lynx. Never had to sew a coyote but the thin skinned lynx is a whole other story. As for the #3's, welded jaw tips, jaw laminations and base plates with center swivel.

b line.... Yes the my Savage Predator has an Accutrigger and I have always loved it. I have to tear into and look. Never had this problem and not sure how old the rifle is but has been a great performer up until last week.

Thank you much, JR , you consistently get nice ones for sure.

The expression I get when I hear that hollow crunch as I walk is rather amusing to others , the rare times I'm on terrain like that . You would laugh grin

Was it cold enough that you should have cleaned all the oil out of there?

Is the primer dented well enough? Maybe the spring for the firing pin is weak and needs replaced?

Just grasping at straws here! 'Cause I've seen me do it!

Nice journal JR.
I dismantled the blade on my accutrigger.

You want to be pulling straight back on a accu trigger . A glove can make you pull at a angle. And that is kind of the built in safety the [blade]

JR - I'm sitting here in the hospital down in MN, my 9th day here. Reading your journal and wishing I was trapping in Alaska. I really miss the wolf trapping and want to get better at it.
It is fun to see you getting your variety of critters. I imagine it is so cool to have a partner out there... Good For You!
I watched your snare video.
I have bought your #9's.

Would you sell your wolf snares with the kill springs?

I hope to be back after it on a more full time basis next winter.

Nice fur Jr. If it helps any, our snow conditions are bad this winter too. Rocks everywhere, open water where there usually isn’t and traveling for the most part is just as rough as your country looks. Be careful out their. I wiped out a couple weeks back and totaled my brand new .223 bolt action when I landed on it. Not even a box of shells through it

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!

JR I've been thinking about your lack of wolves. I'm no wolf trapper but I've messed with a few and it seemed after I got after them for a couple years in a row they started to avoid the area. At least it seemed that way. After some years it began to pick up again. I thought maybe the survivors learned to stay away and warned off the new ones. But over time the older ones died off and things picked up again. Just a theory.

"I shoot 40 grain v-max handloads out of the .204.", AKHowler. I have a Savage 25 Walking Varminter in a .204. Great fast shooting caliber. I shoot the Hornady 40 gr. factory loads. I see a lot of people who shoot re-loads ejecting shells that didn't go off. I'll stick to my factory loads. lol. The only thing I wish I could use where I live is a gun with a barrel nut so I could use a cannister to quiet it down. For a small caliber, it is loud. Thanks for sharing. Do you shoot Wolf with that .204?

Thanks everyone. It was just the glove that makes the trigger act up. Same on my Model 93 .22 mag and 17HMR's.

Pete in Fbks... I run all of my weapons dry and oil free after a few years of mishaps.

AK TRAPR.... Profloat skis bolt right on to the Skidoo's both IFS and Pogo suspensions, You do have to use the Polaris rubber boot on the ski too.

Wolverine Hunter.... I do not sell my snares. There is lots of snare manufacturers out there. I just like to build my own.

Nunamiut.... Sorry to hear about your wreck but they make new rifles every day. Hard to replace us....

drasselt.... I'm thinking the same thing. I have trapped the area for quite a few years using my own urine on pee posts and now believing that the wolves have submitted and gave the area within 3 miles of my cabin to me. I haven't had them howl or caught them on camera at all this season. Starting to believe I am the Alpha male and along with my girlfriend, we are the new Dry Creek pack. We are a small pack and have a pretty small territory but I will defend it vigorously.....No plans of being more than a pack of two.

Elitebowman... Never had a misfire, it is definately just the gloved trigger. Not with a leather glove, just the soft monkey face gloves I believe. I fired several shots with my leather gloves without fail. I have shot a few wolves with the .204 with the 40 gr V-max with excellent results. I would be careful on shot placement though. I'm not sure how it would do on a shoulder at range. Wolves are a bigger animal than people think. Far from a coyote.....I like my hunters to use the same calibers as they'd use for deer hunting. I just like how accurate it is, little recoil and flat shooting.

Did a quick run out to the cabin against my better judgement. Cold and breezy. Picked up a nice coyote who is in the washer right now. Found a pack of wolves 20 miles away and placed some gear. they made it down the river but narrowly missing where I had gear. Loving the ride on the new Expedition and it started right up at 30 below. Did learn one thing.... Don't use the parking brake on the truck or trailer at 30 below. Had a heck of a time unloading. Ran into a big ol herd of caribou by the cabin yesterday. They hung around for pictures not fearing the new Alpha male of the pack.... [Linked Image]
