I remember listening to WCFL from Chicago when I was a kid. At night , you got their signal pretty clear here north of Pittsburgh.

Kiss was in the seventies, wasn't it? If we're going there, no list would be complete without Aerosmith.

One person has really been neglected on this post. While his voice was never the greatest, his songwriting talents were something else.
He wrote several hits by the Byrds,Turtles ,peter ,paul and Mary and several others. He also had many hits on his own. You may have guessed it----

Bob Dylan

Yeah Dylan had some talent but for the best lyrics ever, my vote goes to John Prine

Have to laugh at what our Jr. High music teacher said(quoting Mr.Grizwald) "10 years from now,no one will even remember who the Beatles are. That statement was made over 55 years ago.
I bought the Beatles first album for 49cents at the Emporium in downtown St. Paul, boy have times changed.
I never cared a lot for either Lenon or McCartney as solo artists or their later groups

Nobody has mentioned Elvis either.

Phil Ochs over Bob Dylan any day.

Elvis, great voice, great performer. His influences on rock music were much more noticeable in the 50s than in the 60s. Seemed like in the 60s especially early 60s--Elvis was more into being a movie star.
Elvis was not a song writer. The most influential 60s groups were also proficient song writers---Beatles,Stones,Dylan,to name a few.
Aother group I really liked was The Springfields, and Dusty Springfield as a solo artist when she left the group.
I just love--Silver Threads and Golden Needles.

Silver Threads and Golden Needles is a great song. Had forgotten that one.
Years ago, I saw Three Dog Night in person in concert. Great group. The Show Must Go On was my favorite of theirs.
