Congrats on becoming the new Dry creek pack! Sure hope you are able to continue connecting with wolves despite being the Alpha of your area.

You sure cover ground. Hope you connect with the pack you found. About how big are the packs you work on?

What type of lens you use for your caribou pictures. I ran into a big bunch of caribou going to traps on Tuesday but did not want to freeze up my camera so I did not take pictures. Then did not catch anything so I could have took lots of caribou pictures. Dumb I am. I tried out putting a hot pack in my bag under my camera. That seems to work really good.

That sucks. My 2 year old 223 blr came apart in my hands the other day too. Cracked receiver but I didn’t hit anything. 300 caribou right in front of me and my gun was in two pieces

bfisch... It depends on. It looked like the Dry creek pack only had 4 left but that may have just been a scouting or hunting party. The new pack I found had at least 16 or 18. Weather and the river will have a big influence on success.

muskrat411.... I have a 50-500 mm Sigma lens on my Canon Rebel 7Ti. It is hard on batteries especially at -30. I just kept it in my parka that day because there was a lot of opportunities. It is big and heavy but I pack it everywhere. She took a beating on that trip. I need a new camera for shooting videos. What are you shooting video with?

Got the coyote on the board. She sure is a pretty one for Alaska. [Linked Image]

As always I enjoy reading your journal and the great pictures especially this year with a blown knee my trapping is cut down extremely hope to have anew one though before summer. Which of the new expeditions are you enjoying? I have been eyeballing the 900 sport as most of what I run is flat country with some river crossings and am usually alone so figured it would be a bit easier to dig out when I do get ti stuck because they all get stuck eventually

Yes indeed , a lovely coyote ! A big one too. Just like the ones here . Makes me wonder if there are more like her in that area.

Like the wolf as well.

Thank you for the share, JR.

Jr. How can I buy a few of your #9s? I live in Kotzebue but I’m here in Anch for the week on medical? Also, do I need to buy setters for them?

Good afternoon trappers. Came off the line yesterday. We got some new snow last week which made for a nice ride across the flats. Lots of drifting but they were soft and no issues. Shot another lynx on the way out at the crossover cabin. He crossed the trail in front of me and stopped for a look back at 35 yards. Clean miss with the first shot with the .22 mag Keltec pistol but the second shot rang true. Overflow was in the wet stage and not so friendly. Missed on all 3 posts on Pee Post Pass. Couldn't tell how many wolves were there but wind direction definitely determines which side of the posts they approach. Got everything going at the cabin and decided to pull the little groomer up the line and check the upper line while the cabin warmed up.The trail behind the cabin had pretty deep overflow on it so I went up river on the other side. When I came back, I dropped the groomer on the river and came down the back trail to check the 5 cubbies behind the cabin. I decided to continue on down the trail to the cabin trusting I could walk on water. Wrong... [Linked Image]

Ran out the next day and missed 2 wolves on the Wood but picked up another lynx on the coyote bait in a snare. Pulled the groomer 68 miles in preparation for some freighting and picked up Stacey for the weekend. Those drifts across the flats were no longer soft and the trip out and back in the with the groomer was a handful. Little cool out but put on a lot of miles. Moving gear this week and freighting. Got a few of these to chop out too. [Linked Image]
Good luck and be safe out there.

Your walk about brings back memories. Lots of that icee on my old trapline. Always good to have a warm place to land.

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

Glad you made it out and got warm and dry and got a couple furs along the way. Is there more lynx on your line than normal this season? Hope those wolves come back through and you connect.

Wow, quite an ordeal, glad you weren't too far from home. What some guys do for fun, lol! Once that freezes up you could probably check some sets with your ice skates.
