cohunt trapper C Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 2,445 revillo, sd	As impressive as their digging speed is, the aspect of their digging that has fascinated me is where a striped gopher(13 lined ground squirrel) has a hole(vertical tunnel) in a rock hard country gravel road and a badger detects that it is home and digs it out. Straight down into that road. The folks who live where they live have all seen numerous examples.

However, if it's a real ground hog hole you will not see the bottom, and there will always be a second, connected hole nearby for escape if necessary. Badgers did LOTS of holes. Some only go a few feet, never connected to another hole/tunnel. I've watched them dig in Wyoming while I've been hunting. They never sound happy and they disappear in a hurry.
