I do this. That's an older pic of an older box design. And that stick is a little small I bend them in the other direction for trail sets

Get some of that corrugated plastic sign material. Just cut to size and slide the trigger wires Into the corrugations. I cut It In small circles and use It for under ice rat trapping. I also cut 4x4" squares and make pans on my 160s In baited rat sets. I just set the trap about 1" under water In the horizontal position. The rat climbs up on the trap pan and he's just as good as being on the stretcher. Lots of ways to use this material for trap pans.

My latest design for “wood” surface ultra thin/light weight BG pan is two pieces of wood backed scrap formica pop riveted together in the center, wood surface out the best size too fit inside jaws. Bend trigger wires as wide as possible that will allow 2” of trigger to be bent back parallel spring side of jaws(this gives you very solid trigger pan worn zero wobble. Slide pan on parallel wires between Formica sandwich on opposite of center pop rivets. Cheap, easy, super thin pans with wood surface animals don’t seem to refuse like plastic or metal ones I have tried. Self stick sandpaper improves both of these for me but does not stay stuck well when subzero.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

I do what bctomcat shows, above. Except I drill 2 1/8" holes in the 3/8" plywood to accommodate the trigger wires, rather than stapling to the wires.

Wouldn't cardboard wrapped in duct tape work simply just to make it waterproof and heavier?

Wouldn't cardboard wrapped in duct tape work simply just to make it waterproof and heavier? Yes, but it will not last as long as wood or corrugated plastic.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
