Did I miss a close up picture pf it somewhere. It sounds like the concept is similar to the fastening system that used to be on some Thompson snares??

I remember Alaskan or Top Jimmy, BCTomcat, and a member from Canada demonstrating using that kind of toggle attachment. Always thought it was an ingenious design and appears highly useful on the line, reducing time both in set up and clean up. Reducing the use of pliers and tie wire is always a huge plus!

A toggle on the end of a cable and slipping it through a hole in something like the canadians did has been around forever the one french canadian used to say it was "of the swivel" when used that way. When I came up with the idea of putting it on the cable and putting a loop on the end of the cable 14 years ago (before you where a trapperman member) I sold some to Dean Jr and TJ and shared it on trapperman both of them like them and bought more and TJ has endorsed them on here for me multiple times he did a few months ago when the subject was brought up. The old way wasn't reliable and could conceviably come undone if jiggled around enough Alaska Range Trapping Supply sells that idea. The H.O.T. Latch setup I came up with can NOT ever come undone it is impossible! I caught a big moose in a #9 years ago in a trail set and it broke the weld on the #9 swivel and got away with my #9 trap but the H.O.T. latch was just fine! When I first made them I tested them by pulling them apart with a porta power and the cable will fail every time my H.O.T. Latch always held up!

Yes always shave at the end of trapping season my wife doesn't like it but I didn't get to trap this year my store kept me too busy so I shaved early! I got to make over 300 dozen wolf snares and a lot of other products I make instead of trapping. I'm going to spend my summer making 400 dozen wolf snares and then other snares and products I make so I can trap next year. I'm pretty happy though you all made my store a success so I'm good with it! Thank You!!!

Those porta powers will sure put things to the test.

Good to hear business is going so well for you, hope this year goes the same for you!

Interesting in not coming unhooked and strength difference. Cool product!

Thanks for explaining these H.O.T. latches to me, guys. I could see some folks around here liking them. Good thread so far.

Thanks for sponsoring this page, Ted.

Ted turned me on to these when I went up and prepped traps this past November with him. I configured my fox, yote and kitty traps with the HOT latches, I had always just ran a cable with a loop at the end big enough for the trap to pull through and it always seemed every time I packed traps in the tote that junk would become a tangled mess. Didn't have that problem this year smile It took me a minute to figure it out but once I did it was game on smile Gotta do all the marten traps for next season. It is an efficient system that works.

I like the idea, especially for large traps and snares.
My marten sets are pretty much "permanent", so have a large cable staple partially embedded on poles, and 120's all have small beaners. Un-snap a catch, snap on a new trap, done.

I agree. Intriguing.

They seem quite versatile.

Yep, I have a bunch of them, and got some in several different sizes. Use them for trapping and a bunch of other things as well. I have them in the boat, truck, cabin, snow machine, and of course in all my trapping stuff. They definitely come in handy. I had made some home made ones that worked great for what I was doing, but Ted's are a step up from the ones I had done. They would also be great if you are using coni's for Marten, so you could quickly change out a trap and keep moving. My 2 cents from using them.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

These WCS toggles sort of remind me of the H.O.T. latch, otherwise I have never seen anything like Ted's setup

Yeah those are similar in style but that wire would straighten out with anything bigger then a marten, Frozen Okie gave me a dozen of them before he went back down to the lower 48, good for quick change outs on coni's.

Thanks for the clarification, both of you.
