On the eve of our first beaver trapping river camp, I'm watching my 13 year old son turn into a young man. While some have to search for a trapping partner, the lucky ones get to raise their own. I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm not sure what words to use to capture my feelings as I look at these pictures. Maybe there aren't any to describe it. Maybe its just that deep deep pride and love a Dad has for his son that only the Man upstairs can understand. If that is it, then that is enough. I hope you folks don't mind me sharing. That’s so awesome! I feel the same way with my 12 year old. I have 2 hernias and irritated them trapping beaver throwing drowner weights and my son took over and caught 4 last Sunday morning. Teaching him to be a man and enjoy the outdoors hunting and fishing is my greatest reward so far in life. I hope you two will be best friends for life and enjoy each other. I’ve found that I don’t enjoy any of it much anymore unless my buddy is with me.

That's cool! My 13, and 10 yr olds also like to hang out (sometimes). Remember your youth, if he loses interest for a couple years don't take it personally...teenagers can be hard to figure out, lol.

Share away nothing better then teaching a young man about trapping even better when he’s your Son, making memories that will last a lifetime. WTG!

It has been pretty incredible to say the least. On top of this, his grades are excellent to boot. He is learning about life and is not yet old enough to realize it. Patience exists because of determination. Work produces reward. Solutions only exist because of conflict, therefore we need to embrace conflict instead of fearing it. I could go on and on.... We were at it again today and he caught two more on sets he built yesterday. I told him awhile back that by the time he turns 16 he’ll be good enough to trap on his own. “Dad, I’ll never go trapping without you.” I couldn’t reply to him right away because of the lump growing in my throat. I don’t know if he realizes how true his statement is. [Linked Image]

Makin' a trapper! Great stuff!

Best time on trapline is when my son is with me. He's almost 34 now and can pile 'em up too.

He is a special young man with a heart of gold. I can’t tell you how many times he has seen our neighbor pushing snow and ran out with a shovel to help. Our neighbor is a writer for the local newspaper and doesn’t get around like he did in his younger days. I got some free blizzard coupons and he and I ride around in the G-ride and if we see kids doing good deeds or are doing something productive and being a contributing community member, we stop and thank them and slip them a free blizzard or cone coupon from Dairy Queen. One of the things I really admire the most about him is that he isn’t scared or shy about his faith. While many kids wear designer labeled clothes, he isn’t scared to wear clothes that reflect his faith and who or what he is about. My apologies for getting all sappy but as much as I’m a role model for him, he motivates me to be a better person. [Linked Image]

That’s how I’m raising my four and I love it. God Bless!
