I’m hearing you Coonman... what you ought to do is ride down to that SS office, find the overweight loud talking woman in charge... lay her across your good knee ....jerk them britches down and paddle her bare butt with a wooden spoon in front everyone in the dadgum place! Never heard truer words of wisdom spoken!!

So at say $1,000 a month for 3 years is $36,000 and he should pass on that to get $1,300 a month 3 years later is what your saying? Nope not in the least, I'm saying more than that. I'm saying he should find a way to make 40 thousand plus a year(not that hard) and forget about retiring. You forget, you have money, he doesn't. You most likely arent wealthy but you have more than him. You absolutely can not live on 1100 a month and that is what he will be doing when he is not able to work anymore. And it's not 1100 a month, it's $950 after medicare. Can you live on 950 a month? What about inflation, live for ten years and lose 30 percent of the buying power, has the COLA equaled the real inflation rate? They don't consider healthcare, energy, taxes and food in the inflation index. It's irresponsible to counsel Dave to retire at an early age. He can't. Sad part is he will.

He said he would still be working and still be collecting SS so he’s gaining not losing plus he could get raises then also he never said he would outright quit. He could do both and yes he should prepare for retirement as best he can never said he had to do it my way just options to consider but you have it all figured out it sounds like, do you?

Coonman survived this long I think he would do better with a extra $950 a month then waiting for that easy $40,000 job you would think he would get that job now and be on easy street sooner if that was realistic. lol

Coonman, do you eat any of your critters...? I bet you could stack the freezer pretty good with back legs of decent coon, beavs, and mrats, plus beav backstraps. I've never tried coon backstraps. I bet you could reduce your monthly meat bill a ways. Just don't let the freezer go out...

According to the IRS, coonman, at his $1,100 of SS at age 62 ($13,200 annual), wouldn't have any of that taxed as income until he combined it with other revenue to each 25k a year. Between 25-34k of revenue, 50% of his SS benefits would be taxable, 85% if he made more than 34k. That's the way I read this, but who knows, I'm not drawing now and won't be at those numbers. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/dont-forget-social-security-benefits-may-be-taxableSteven 49er- Yeah, SS COLAs rarely keep up with the real inflation rate, especially such as year like 2021 will most likely be. At least that it was the way with my folks, and they've been gone for about 15 years. The typical COLA was in the 1-2% range and not every year...

In 1933, when SS was established, life expectancy was about retirement age. FDR and crew never thought that a sizeable portion of the federal budget would be spent through SS "trust fund". Not FDR's problem anymore...

Dave, something to consider ... Medicare doesn't cover everything medical ...$148.50 buys you 80 % of your hospital and doctor only after you turn 65. Without a supplement plan you're responsible for the remaining 20% of the bill for those knee surgeries you need, along with all your medications.
Regardless what your state does for taxes, the fed still wants their share of taxes on the benefit amount they will give you. They hand your money back to you with one hand and take part of it back with the other not including what you'll never see on the front end.
