Consider the cost of adding PIT pans….
I agree that good strong springs are fine in old traps. B and L have some of the best.

Jiffy setters work great on the sc 4.5's.
Dont forget sometimes you can pick up a #3 newhouse for the price of a new sc #3

The only thing I don't like about my #3 sleepy creek traps is that when I break over my knee I feel that the jaw posts will bend out and the only way that I cured that was by adding my own baseplate onto it. But I haven't had any problems with the #2. I try and find all the good older Victor's I can find being I've always had good luck with them

I've used a lot of different DLS but the way I have my SCs set up has me spoiled. The bases are soft but I add a plate to all of them anyway so in the end it doesn't matter
