If you are going to be that far north, you may want to hit more of the Downeast coast on your way back, perhaps Eastport, too bad Campobello Island is still off-limits...The variation in the tides up that way is crazy. You might consider Acadia on the mainland side at Gouldsboro, wicked views from there and by far fewer people. I like the waterfalls that run forward and backward at the Narrows too...On the Island for Acadia, the Bubbles North and South make a nice hike
Plan on a lot of driving as it's a bigger State than you might think...You are going to hit some nice spots, the Knife-edge is a memorable trail for sure. If you had more time I would send you into the Allagash (Eagle Lake) for that brook trout you describe...last I was there the minimum size was twelve inches, but if it did not look like fifteen we released them...
Perhaps Scolloper (or others) will see this and chime in...Have fun...

Get off of Rt. 1 and go down and see the fishing villages. That's good advice. Route 1 in the summertime is a nightmare of tourist traffic. There is some great striper fishing to be had along the coast and many charter operations run out for groundfish. You might try East Grand Lake. Landlocked salmon, brook and lake trout along with smallmouth bass. Northern Maine is beautiful in the fall but blaise in the summer greenery. I'd stick to the rocky coast and feast on the seafood.

I'll recommend this also! The coast is really nice and lots of great restaurants along the coast.

You might also consider a boat ride when you get to the coast. Rockland to Vinylhaven Island has regular ferry service and made a great afternoon trip for me when I was up there

Kittery Trading post and bobs clam shack right next door Great suggestion. Also, Acadia Nat Park on Mount Desert Island, although the time of year is not optimal. It's likely to be black fly season in the woods so take bug dope on your hike.

Thanks. Looks like when we leave Millinocket we're going to Eastport/Lubec area for at least a day. Don't know where we'll end up after that. Told my wife we can go skinny dipping off of the beach at Quoddy light house. Told her the currents bring warm water in this time of year. Haha. I'll let her go first You're going to see some of the nicest areas (IMO) the Great State of Maine has to offer up that way. The tide swings at West Quoddy Light are some of the most impressive in the world. I am not sure what your plans are for driving times each day, but the Lubec area to Gouldsboro is a nice journey and would allow you to see a part of Acadia most don't, Schoodic Point (spectacular views and fewer people). It's a quick left after the "Narrows" to see a tidal waterfall that runs in both directions with the rising and falling of the tides (weird but neat). Of course, you should also spend lots of time on Mount Desert (Dessert). As I mentioned, the Jordan Pond area hiking the North and South Bubble trails will give you awesome views of the area...Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor are very nice Villages, Bar Harbor Village is as one might expect, wicked touristy... From there depending on how much time you have, my favorite portion of Maine is Penobscot Bay...Lunch on the upper deck of Youngs Lobster Pound, a visit to the Camden Hills State Park Mount Battie...From there Darmascotta is nice, Boothbay, Pemaquid Point and Popham Beach...South beyond that, I leave it to others on here... Enjoy your trip...
