Yeah it always amazes me when they say and act like they need to desperately come up with some more cash to pay the mortgage, utilities, etc. Then to come up with this money they supposedly go set traps for beaver just for fur.Or I suppose castor too.But we know darn well that unless they are doing nuisance damage control work they will more than likely be further in the red by trapping beaver.Like the $1,500 dollars.Where in the heck did that come from ? Government stimulus.
I have also seen them make sets that just make you shake your head.Or they use a trap that we know there are much better options now days.Over all I do like and appreciate that they are at least showing trapping on TV.And over all the show it in a positive good light. So it it is for sure better than nothing.

Just makes a guy wonder how much if not all is made up on these reality shows now. How much stuff is planted just to keep a guy watching the shows. The only time I watch MM is before Alone starts but that collector grade Newhouse has me thinking it’s all BS. Who would leave thousands of dollars just sitting in the woods to lose it’s value, heck it was not even landmarked to find it easier.
Naked and Afraid show is no better they always find food before the extraction, some random pig runs through the camp or a happy meal washes up on the beach kind of thing. Before the bugs ate them alive now they must fog the area the whole time not a bug to be found.

I saw that pan too. After the editing, you never know what really happened there. Tom Oar knows how to trap beaver. Who knows what that shot was about.

As bad as Toms legs are I don't think he's doing that beaver trapping on his own. He's about the only one I watch on that show.

Tom was trapping on an island where the owner had contacted him to remove the problem beaver--My guess is that is where part of the $1500.00 he mentioned came from.Payment for removal. I did find it interesting that the first beaver he caught ,happened not long after the set was made--he said that was the first time he had ever caught a beaver the same day the set was made. I on the other hand have had to quickly remove my safety grippers and stand aside to let the beaver go through my 330 on his way to the castor mound I had just made, this has happened several times. Tom also stated that 5 beaver in one day,was his biggest daily catch ever. Those daily numbers would be considered pretty small or at least an average days catch for many of us. But then again,we don't know everything about the areas he traps and the actual numbers of beaver around. We can nit pick all we want, but as has been said several times--at least somewhere, trapping is being shown on TV--and Tom is a favorite of many of the viewers. So I have to thank Tom for what he is doing for us in promoting trapping. Tom

I have always thought when Tom is talking about what the animal is worth he is figuring on the worth of the finished product. Hats, gloves and etc. I have talked to one man that used to rodeo with Tom and he claims he is the real deal. Of course some things have to be done differently for the show.

Tom and Nancy Oar are very popular celebrities, and I am sure Tom has no trouble at all selling his hand crafted goods for way more than a guy like me could. I'm certain that is where the value of his fur comes in. More power to h them. It is good to see a show that shows ANY type of trapping in a favorable light.
