Rookie question…. Does it increase my odds of trapping a bobcat? Or can a guy use coyote or fox urine? Can a guy buy cat urine? Does it have to be fairly fresh to work?

Any that you mentioned would work. Use red fox for multi species . Cats hunt with their eyes, smells just draw them in closer

Yup. They get caught when the set is visible. Flashy even.

I have caught quite a few cats and have never used urine. As said above flashy sets, I hang something above the set(cd,snooze can lid, a grouse wing if legal, is not in Idaho) anything to move in the wind and draw attention.

We use fresh urine on almost all or our cats sets. Just always have, not sure how much it adds but visuals bring in the cats so they can smell the urine.
Use fresh if you're going to use any.

Congrads on drawing your bobcat tag!

Increase your odds? Maybe, a cat has to be near enough to smell it, fox urine may work also.
Buying cat urine? Yes you can. I know at least one vendor will be at the WTA convention in September selling urines. Fresh? Sure, but urine keeps a long time if properly handled.

Yes, just use a flasher close to your pen bait set. [Linked Image]

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Absolutely NOT !

Studies have shown that bobcats showed more interest in coyote urine than that of their own kind. . .unless it was breeding season, then bobcat urine held more interest , for the obvious reason.

I can tell you something though. . .for many years people penned up house cats and collected urine from them and sold it as 'wild cat urine' and trappers did quite well.

Ever smelled an old Tom cat's urine, especially being meat fed ?
If so, you'd know why !!!
