I have access to gobs of Federal hulls, but they seem to have a short base wad (have to space my primer seat), and when I adjust they seem to crimp terrible (all I have are WAA12s). I'm not feeling like I have to use these, but they're free for the taking, any thoughts are appreciated!

Those are called IBW hulls. Internal base wad. The primer should actually extend a little bit past the base wad. Not really meant for target load applications, more meant for max capacity type hunting loads. They are crimping terrible because your stack height is not high enough due to the IBW.

I developed a load with those hulls that is a tss/steel duplex for waterfowl, its a great load. I couldn't make it fit in a cheddite hull so the IBW hull was perfect. To make them work in your situation try to use a bulkier flake type powder, not a ball powder. My load uses alliant steel. Or, you could send them to me!! Good luck!

Yukon, if you stack height is to tall or to short you'll get "tenting" or dished crimps. Powder density or wad choice can be culprits. However the claybuster waa12 wads are for a tapered hull. ( winchester or remington) you need a wad for a straight walled hull.claybuster has several.cb6100-12 for 1oz, cb118-12 for 1 1/8oz or the claybuster Federal style wads cb2100-12 for 1oz and cb2118-12 for 1 1/8oz.get some of those wads and load them top gun federal hulls, may have to fiddle with your loader to get them right but they'll work. In these times I've loaded more different kinds of hulls than ever before. Good luck!

I picked up a clay pigeon box full of federal top gun hulls. I sized and primed a hundred of them with Winchester 209 primers. Started looking for data. Can not find any. Cut one open and its straight wall with a plastic base. Ordered a bag of these. Supposed to come with load data .
