Here are a couple hunts from this fall. The black bear was at the end of August and we had a good berry year and this bear is delicious!
The moose was taken second day of season. I have never got a moose that early before. It didn't smell at all and had lots of fat. The pack out was something else!

Awesome! Can your family eat a whole moose in a year? Just you and the wife packed it? Now that it's done, would you shoot one that far from the boat again? How far was the total pack? Has the state provided an entity to take the cut piece of antler to? Bear and moose......just like having beef and pork in the lower 48. Will we see a caribou trip later this winter?

That's a lot of questions! Depending on the size of the moose we can eat a whole one in a year. We kept about 2/3 of this one and gave the rest away. My wife and I and two friends packed it out. The pack was 1/3 mile each way and yes I would do it again. I weighed the work in before I took the shot. I reasoned that the extra pack out work would be less stressful than not knowing when/if I would get another chance. It would also free me up to help others pack out their moose. The bull was in great shape with lots of fat and no smell at all. We bring the cut portion of the antler to the check station in the village.
Not sure about caribou.

Well your posting to show us your activities. Lots of readers of this forum don't know how big a moose is and how much food it provides. A guy only has so much time but as I said before, properly skinned and prepped bear hide might bring some decent money! Vid of the moose looks farther than it apparently was. Third of a mile isn't bad, especially with 4 folks.
