I'd thought I'd parked her on a rock but the back was sitting hard on the ground. Broke loose, we crossed the river and walked over to survey our options. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Pretty boggy so I decided to save our backs and use the HP the Mothership provides.

Froze her down again while we were working on the moose. Didn't expect that as wet as it was. 400' of rope and the rope-a-long and we were free again. A handyman jack and piece of plywood will be in the boat for the next adventure. What a day. Hauled the moose back down river to the truck and came back up to relax. Amazing feeling to have the moose back at the truck even though it still has to be cut up and processed. Feels like the pressure is off. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]Broke camp early the next morning and headed for the truck.
Got meat to process now and snow machines to service. Be safe...

Nice videos .

Good navigation on land too. Snow is just frozen water .

My father built his own fleet of airboats from scratch and of course was mech to them all. Others would hire him to fix theirs. As they would their planes.

He could dock an airboat on land sweeter than anyone I ever saw. And we routinely went anywhere he wanted, despite others telling him airboats aren't made to do that ...well he did . He would routinely go on dry land good distances from one waterway to the next. Even into , and up dips and swells on the ground. He would say, you have to know your prop and how sensitive it is to gun it or let off, when to gee and haw , when not to.

Aren't they so useful ? I love them. Spent many years traveling in them, on dry land too !

Thanks for the share, JR.

Yes they are useful and fun, but there sure are loud and expensive to operate.

I knew a guy back in the late 70ís I think it was that got tired going through the ice beaver trapping so he started using an air boat and it ended the problem.

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

The 70s when beaver trapping was good enough that a guy could get an air boat to beaver trap. The good old days. Would miss my Google phone.

Running the airboat over the snow, who'd a thought? Then having it freeze down! There's an education for all. Awesome stuff jr.

Pulling that big boat 400' with a rope-along! Wow! What did you use for a pick?

alaska viking..... I didn't have to pull the boat 400', it just took 400' to reach a live tree on the edge of the swamp. We put all we could on the rope-a-long and then the big block and big rudders were able to break her free. I'm still trying to figure out what to pack in the extraction bag for that situation. That totally caught me off guard and unprepared. Don't like that but definitely learned from it.

Got all the traps tended to and ready for season. Been servicing the machines and sleds now. [Linked Image]

That was some fine moose we brought home. Cool weather and clean makes for some fine eating and very little loss. Got the moose in the freezer and made 100 pounds of some fine black bear sausage. Full freezer and ready for trapping season [Linked Image]
My old fleshing beam in the shop was starting to split so I built another one a couple days ago. I bought the old one from Dean Wilson back in 94 for $35 and then I built the folding stand for it. Built the new one pretty much identical to it. [Linked Image]
Season is coming fast. Be safe
