Early in the year (about 10 October) we usually get out after the red foxes. They certainly aren't "winter prime" but the pelts are just fine for taxidermy preparation. These high desert foxes are generally off-color for the fur market anyway (generally "straw" colored, with about 20% of them cross phase) but they do well on the taxi market. In this early season, I can usually avoid the coyotes by making "dirty sets", as the coyotes aren't quite prime for another couple of weeks.

Great pics. I find at least one weather balloon a year. Found this one the other day. Couldn’t read where it was launched from but the date was from August.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Love to draw fox..all colour phases. Nice subject, Jack ! I think of how they blend into the red and orange fallen leaves on the ground now.

Sharon:

Those are great drawings, wish I had that talent.

Here is a couple: Lake Superior November gale, last year, not out of focus, but sand blowing across the camera lens.

Wife's dog herding the ducks up from the creek.

How does your buyer want the fox skinned, Gulo? I used to sell dorsal skinned foxes to a couple taxi's when I lived in western Alaska.

This is a wet area that all winter the ice was growing to a 6 foot high mound. One day it blew up and these chunks of ice were setting on the ice. This only happened once in all the years I trapped my line.

Old trail blaze I fount in a pass just at tree line. It marked a foot trail from a mine to A Hot Springs 30 miles away. It was from back in the 1920's.
[Linked Image]

A big bear tracks crossing my trail.
[Linked Image]

The tree branches were stripped and at the base of the tree. There were claw marks on the tree but I wish I as there to witness what went on.

Just got back from a nuisance beaver job up at the Canyon.
Snapped a couple pics today.

This is the blocked culvert

This is someones old marten box I found on the game trail into the beaver house.
[Linked Image]

Had one beaver and one fired 330-might have to go to some sneaky sets to get the other one now.

This is a shot of the mighty Abitibi River from the top of the canyon looking north. The poplars have mostly shed their leaves, and the tamarack are just starting to turn from pale green to yellow.

Hobbie,

Your photo reminds me of my summer of 1963 that I spent on the Eastern Shore (of Virginia) in the little crabbing town of Harborton, crabbing, fishing for eels and puffers, staying there with my grandparents. Interesting summer for a young lad from Idaho.

Hobbie, how many crab pots are you running. You have to throw back all females, right?

No pot of goose gold at the end of the rainbow this morning, but it was my first attempt at goose hunting so it was a great morning just to be out there.
