Anyone use Log Cubbies? Bobcat? Coon? Fisher? Good/Bad/Ugly?

Plan is to place out for Fisher/Bobcat & pre-baited. Trap attached to drag. 1 per season in Pennsylvania.

I use them for coon and bobcat but there isn't a possum that can pass one by. Advantage is they are portable so you can put it where it's most advantageous. Most useful for nesting predator control jobs. There is nothing in the woods that can walk by without looking in, even us

I guess you could call them portable, given that there's a skidsteer in the first photo.

Those make great rabbit boxes if they're a little smaller

Look good to me...reminds me of what I first used on my traplines as a greenhorn. Throw a chunk of bait place traps in front and catch. Do you plan on staking at the set or dragging? As you know those logs will take a beating if staked. Slide wire away possibly?

Drags

First cut cedar slabs make a nice cubby for mink use a trimmed piece on the top and sides fill across the bottom with a 1X2 to support in the middle. This gives you a natural looking cubby on the outside with a square opening that will take a 110, 120 or foot trap at both ends.

Probably a good option in more populated areas, more discreet and avoiding the curious or johnny sneak'um.

I love burning hollow logs on the bonfire, stand them up in the middle and watch them turn into rocket stoves, lol. Now, you're trying to deprive me of that simple joy in life Hern. I bet they would be nice on bobcats set in place prior to season even... so long as you don't put them where guys who like them in bonfires will find em. lol

Heavy to haul around.Tend to rot down in a few seasons.
Northern trappers will make them on site with a chainsaw out of sound wood-those last for years on the line.

I bore a cross hole in them and hang them up for bird/squirrel houses, but I can see them working for you.

I made a double sided one for wolverine. Never caught nothing but I only had it out a week or two. During the summer a grizzly bear found it and ripped it apart. Bears are jerks.

I used a lot of them a couple seasons ago where they logged some old growth and a lot was hollow, They were all different lengths and a few went the whole way few. I set the ones closest to the skid roads and got a few weasels and possums from them that year. I was after fisher.

We call those chimney logs, VERY cool!

Years ago I made some from thick oak saw mill slabs with bark on.
Some were 3 sided with dirt floor.
They worked less than anticipated, we had no fisher or cat season then.

I will set stuff like that when I find it. I have no doubt I'd get possums and coons, may even Fisher around here.

I was trying for a cat but got these two instead. The trap was mostly uncovered. I put a dropping between the trap and the log and blocked it like a cat set with sticks. I used some food lure inside and a shot of urine on the top of the log. #3 Bridger on a drag. I'll do it again. I did not catch a coon or an opossum here. A little opossum did walk between the jaws and not get caught though.

I use them for the New York fisher season they seem to produce well for me a good chunk of beaver meat and your favorite call lure
