With a swage crimping tool to make earth anchors, how many crimps should I put into a 3/32 double ferrule? Should the crimps be close to the ends of the ferrule or towards the middle?

2 crimps for anything 3/32 and smaller. Crimps should be evenly spaced

Three for me. I leave just a smidgen of cable poking out the end. Crimp the whole ferrule. Why wouldn't you???

I do understand that a "collar" is different than a double ferrel and my crimper has a chart on it that says to crimp 3/32" collars 3 times. So what the heck, I give the 3/32" double ferrels 3 since they're in the jaws anyway.

I crimp the entire ferrule.

Which is 3 crimps in mine.

Three, I start by crimping the middle and then I do both ends. Entire ferrel is crimped.

A 3 lb small sledge hammer and a ( train rail ) anvil

Like ADC said I leave a little cable tip sticking out as the crush moves the ferrules left and right so if the cable is flush at the start your missing some of the cable when squeezing it. For the double ferrules I crush both ends then the middle you can see the high spot for the last crush, if it needs a 4th crush I give it another one. It’s important to do the crushing evenly across the board and not randomly as Willy nilly might undo the other crush tightness if coming from a different angle.

I do not leave the end of the cable exposed. Nothing irritates me more than a puncture wound or a gash from a cable end.

Yep leave a bit sticking out then do your crushing and not much if any is sticking out remember the crush moves the ferrule to both sides when pressed.

Yep, keeping it that short keeps the cable from fraying.

I do 3 crimps. I want to extend the feral atleast one crimp longer than the starting length roughly.
