we are back in shotgun zone this year my Aunt is feeling up to having us all for deer season. that is the best news and I could hunt with 1 shell and be happy we are getting the crew together.
but man is it hard to find slugs this year we are a month out I have been checking stores regular and seeing nothing for over a year
I am fully aware of the ammo issues I have enough but not as many as I would like
I like to have more because where we hunt there is no running to the store not like a store would do you any good in 2021 is you don't have it they probably don't either.
I have been using Winchester Super X 1 oz 2 3/4 for just shy of 30 years everything is sighted in for that slug
I was getting a little worried. I though I had more of them then I found another box
I have a feeling a lot of guys going to be checking the console , glove box, under the seat , hunting coat pockets and junk drawers looking for slugs this year. the stores don't have any
Get ready the hunting public is going to find out there are no slugs very soon
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Was just at Fleet farm and they had a decent selection, at least by the current standards anyways

Sign up for e-mail on specials. I see slugs all the time for sale on line. I have no use for them so I don't pay them any attention. SGAmmo has 200 Round Case of 12 Gauge 2.75 Inch 1 Ounce Tornado Rifled Slug Ammo by Sterling for $149.80 It says they have 13 cases in stock. I did not really look at the rest of it.

Thanks
I just got off the phone with my dad he looked in his box , we are going to be good for this year.
I have even saw three 5 round boxes of Remington sluggers Saturday at Fleet that was all they had and I used them 30 years ago but they were not as accurate as the Winchesters from my guns so I haven't bought anything else but super x in 28 years.
like buckshot not all slugs are created equal if your shots are sub 30 yards most anything will do if your stretching your range to 80-90 yards it makes a difference

Last year was my first time hunting in a shotgun slug only zone.I bought 2 3/4 slugs for my 20 gauge and my first shot,I put down a button buck at 100 yards plus. The next weekend,I missed several deer, but no shot was closer than 100 yards. Went into Wisconsin today,no slugs whatsoever at WalMart, just a couple boxes of buckshot--shelves were virtually empty. Went to FleetFarm, they had a few boxes of non rifled 20 ga. shells. But they did have a few boxes of Federal 3 inch 12 ga. magnum rifled slugs,so this year I will pull out my 12 with the 30 inch full choked barrel. Because of my right shoulder injuries ,I was hoping to go again with the 20,but at least I will be able to get out and hunt. Tom

I have been loading 69 caliber round balls. Using a shot wad and an open choke slug barrel. Have not shot anything with them but at 50 yards they are pretty accurate. Definitely minute of deer. I have not really shot them any further than that.

Those remington sluggers flew wild like buckshot lol

Probably have a few boxes laying around from when the kids youth hunted. Let me know.

Tom rifled/foster slugs are not often good much past 100 yards 12ga accuracy falls apart on a still day about 110 -120 yards I can't keep them on a 8 inch paper plate on a windy day I was having trouble hitting a gallon milk jug at 90 yards but was on them at 75 no problem slugs will fly 400 yards you just only have about a 2 degree idea of where they will go after they get past about 110 yards a foster slug is a flying lead thimble they are drag rather than spin stabilized foster slugs make the ballistic coefficient of a round ball look good if 1600 fps is basically the limit to push them the heavier retains it's stability longer my experience is 20ga slugs lose stability sooner makes sense they are 1/2 or 5/8 oz rather than 1 oz with the 20ga I prefer the 5/8 oz and generally find 75 yards is about as far as I want to try shooting wit them. now if you get a rifled slug barrel it is a game changer with Sabot slugs my preferred load has been discontinued I was very impressed with the terminal performance of the Winchester dual bond 20ga sabot slugs down side they are about 2.40 a round although the foster slugs are catching up to them in price recently. the dual bond is a 44cal 260gr pistol bullet in a sabot laoded to 1800fps and they hold about 3 inches for me at 100 yards

Mine always shot the Federal slugs best. In the blue box. those are my second choice I have shot a few that were given to me over the years and they are very close

A hotrodded 12 gauge, a laser rangefinder, and practice at many distances so elevation is known makes a one shot lethal 200 yard deer gun.

The 3 inch shells I bought are the federal blue box(Power Shok) 1600 fps 1 1/4 oz. I know they don't reccomend the full choke, but it is the only shotgun I have that takes the 3 inchers. When I bought the gun in 1972 I tried a few slugs in it and was able to break balloons at around 100 yards out. I will use it this year and hope for the best. You guys are getting me all exited about the upcoming season, limit is 3 deer,2 od which must be non-antlered. Tom

More than likely, I am no help on this.
I am more of a hunter than a sniper. I don't care what anyone says my gun can do; I'm stuck behind it; and am the weakest link.
I load .69 caliber cast lead balls to shoot out of my 12 ga, full choke (.695") Saiga 12. If I can't get closer than 50 yards; I got no business shooting.
