Wow, lookout! Even Midway is not above shenanigans. They were out of several pieces of apparel that were on sale. They offered to notify you once they arrived in stock. Well, they sent the notification when they came back in stock but they jacked the price significantly just prior to the notification. In fact, after talking to customer sefvice, they admitted that the prices changed at midnight of the date they sent the notification....pretty sneaky. Customer sefvice apologized and 'assured' that it was a coincidence and there was nothing they could do about it. Pretty disappointed, seemed like the last decent place to get decent product since Cabelas went into the toilet. No more Larry Potterfield for me.. ...

I can't imagine prices going up lately.

Even so, if they charged you more than the price that was in your cart, that ain't right.

Not sure I get the issue, or maybe I'm not following. If they sell out of something during a sale they aren't obligated to hold the sale price when they get more back in stock. Its not something that would even cross my mind.

They didnt run out. They were waiting for this seasons order to come in (they are a seasonal item). In addition, the email notification that they had arrived still listed the sale price.

I understand prices going up with inflation, no problem as long as they are up front about it. They advertised the sale price up until midnight of the day they 'arrived'...then tell you they have arrived but we wont honor the advertised price. Probably completely legal, but very unethical business practice. Done venting.

I wonder if Midway knew the new price before "the day they arrived" ?

People call my shop for estimates alot, and for the same reason this thread is about, the only estimate I will give out is my labor cost. I lose some business doing this, but I make less enemies and have survived without ever advertising, only word of mouth.

Now, if you backordered it and were charged one price and when it arrived charged more, I'd tellm to stuff it.

I ordered 3 boxes of ammo and only 2 arrived at my house. I emailed midway and they told me to file a police report and then get back to them

I have two online retail stores. I sell items related to construction / industry. My costs are going through the roof so I've raised my prices twice in the last 2 months.

What if the item went out of stock. They ordered more but had to order it at a much higher price. The new batch of whatever-you-wanted cost them more so they raised the price.

I agree. They can't charge a sale price from the end of last season's run when the new ones cost them a lot more to get in-stock. I doubt they knew what they would cost or when they would get them. Much like James post on Midway awhile back I think you are over reacting.

I own a construction company and it is a zoo right now with fast changing price jumps on a variety of things. Some of our customers understand that it isn't us...some don't seem to care, they vent on us anyway. Not sure about what happened with Midway, not defending or skewering them because of that. But I can tell you that things are far from normal and many are being caught up in it involuntarily.

M. USA has always dealt with me so well. My latest , Mossburg short barrel pump 12g was more than reasonable , at a time when tactical shotguns were few to be found, they were so sought after. I'll stick with them.

That may be how it is with a lot of places, but not every store.

Example: I was building 2 Five drawer chests. One was Curly Cherry. The 2nd one, was Curly Maple. I needed 20 Victorian style solid Brass Drawer Pulls. I go to the local Hardware Store, and I told them what I was making and how many Brass Pulls I needed. Lucky me, they had 5 of the Pulls I needed in stock. It was OLD stock. Still had the old price on them $1.95 for each one. The Store had to order 15 of the same Brass Pulls , so I could complete my project. The new Brass Pulls they had to order in , had a slight price increase. $5.99 for the new stock. Store owner said " Don't worry , we will eat the loss! "

Now, they lost money on that one sale, but they kept a long time customer. I am sure that they made up the loss of that one sale, on the sale of their higher profit items that they sold that week.

Everything in life being artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) better hurry up and get here.
That way, if it's not really here, maybe it's really over there.
Or if it's artificial, maybe we don't need it.

What we need , is to bring wages back to what they were in 1933 !!! In 1933, the average Lawyer made just $3,868 for the whole year !!

Lol...I guess you had to be on the phone to get the entire context. It wasnt a sale price from last year. It was this years sale price which just happened to go out prior to notifying everone they were in stock. She assured me it was just freak timing that the sale went off prior to notifying everyone on the list. I can smell a rat even if you cant smile

A similar thing happened to me, Midlander. Midway advertised a sale price on some brass I needed all summer long--but they were out of stock and wouldn't take backorders.

Then in September they got in the product--but immediately took it off sale. My complaint to their "customer service" resulted in a kiss-off.

The old bait-and-switch. Midway lost my business.

Jim
