For trapping wolfs any coyote specially how many of you use some sort of lure or urine directly on the traps vs offsetting traps from urine or lure set, weather its a flat set or dirt hole set I feel like spraying the trap with scent would simply expose the trap, especially to a weary educated wolf.

Scent never goes on the trap, never.
Trap goes where you want its foot. Foot is about so many inches from nose when their nose is down and checking anything out.
So, scent goes where you want the nose to be, and their foot will be where the trap is.
Its about that simple.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Putting lure, scent or urine on the trap in my opinion would make the target animal dig the trap up

I've read some old time methods that call for goose grease on the trap.
I know 1 set where the bait goes under the trap in a 16" deep hole with the trap bedded on top. And it does work if set right.

Back in the 40's, it was common to spray urine over the trap bed, ie Bill Nelson.
I have bad allergies with very little smell year round. One year I boiled my traps in a lye mixture and thought I might have noticed a hint of lemon in the air. But, since I couldn't smell much anyway, proceeded. When I put those traps in the ground, I had an unreal amount of dig-ups, which initially I thought were coons, since I was living for the first time in coon country. I started spraying urine over my trap bed to see if it would help. and the coyote catch went from 3-4 per check to 8-10 per check.

Skunk pods in the wax is a secret for a certain animal.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

If I am not mistaken, a well known Western trapper wrote a complete canine method book that included a method in which the traps was covered with a bait or lure.
There were other methods included but that scented trap was a prominent part of the book.

As for misinformation using urine, there is more than one way to do things. If you sprinkle or spray GOOD urine on a trap set and critters dig up your dirt cover, you probably out to start the hunt for a better lure or bait. As in all things trapping, a lot depends on all the variables in the game.

People did a lot of stupid stuff back in the old days, which by todays standards is nearly laughable. . .

That said, I've seen Inuit trappers in northern use cut slitters of seal fat attached to a trap pan to capture Arctic foxes, that dug down through the snow.

Not the same as a 'snow pan' set, more commonly used.
