Thanks for trying I don’t need them this year but want to start gathering good steel but not 100% on the best traps for the $ I should be shopping for for yote and cats. I have read yes off set and no off set for cats because it will tear up their foot. Then no bs k9 traps are the best then mb650 are the best then Bridget #3 Idk my (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) head is spinning but I just would get to buy a bunch of one kind and wish I got something else. Just hoping one of you yote pros can recommend the best one to get. I’m not running a professional line. Just taking the kids out and doing the best I can. Maybe 75-100 traps all together including coon and beaver

Yeah that makes a ton of sense!!! Take everything with a grain of salt I guess I always used to run dukes because I was young and didn’t have hardly any money and they always served me good. I’m a little older now and learned to take your time and do it the right way once. And you get what you pay for sometimes and sometimes things are stupidly over priced for the name.

Thanks guys Really appreciate it. I’ll stick to only 2 dozen for now and I’ll see how they are. I’m sure they all are great traps for what I’m going to be doing. I can see that using a trap your confident in is a huge key. Experience will make it so trap and pan placement are perfect. I’m sure steeltraps could take coyote in a #1 1/2 duke if he needed to as I’ve seen his many pics but I’m not that good on the canines yet and I need all the help I can get. I’ll try a few dozen on the top ones I can find and see what build me the best confidence and catches.

A 550 inside jaw spread is the same as the outside jaw spread on a duke 1 1/2. And the Duke jaws aren't that thick. Making them about the same size trap in my opinion. True. But the MB 550 is wider across. AND a much more reliable trap than a 1 &1/2 Duke. Know one longlines with a bunch of Dukes But there are several longliners with MB 550s out there. But you are correct in the since of = If he is going to Texas = Why not run a bigger trap? # 3 sized traps would be my choice for Texas = IF starting from scratch.

Yes 550 is much strong built trap. That's why I'd be very interested in the Alpha same width of the 550 with a jaw spread that matches that width better. And same strong base and jaws

You can always build your own. That's how other models of traps got started.

Well one question is he has inside and outside laminated. Which ones should I go with or does it matter. I would assume outside

Here is what I want. MB 650 cast jaws. Pit Pan and stainless steel dog. Round pan like the MB 550 and wire levers. It will never happen. But I can dream ! LoL!! If you all haven't held an MB Alpha #3 in your hands you should... And if and when you do 4 coil them if you're a serious coyote and bobcat trapper or ever want to be. No dead spot, adjustable pan tension dogless with 1/2 inch jaw face, 3/16th offset. 1/4 offsets are too wide. Wire levers aren't what there cracked up to be IMHO. I've had big yotes bend them enough to impede jaw closure. After trapping 40 plus in the Alphas both protos and production models I can safely say the pan tension is repeatable. No empty snapped traps except for deer.. A coyote steps inside the jaws there yours...
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..
