Doesn’t sound like a good idea to be climbing a tree after a live bobcat.

Would like to watch it though

got a great story of a backfoot caught bobcat on a drag.

if I would have had someone to videotape the "rodeo", I could have made a MINT on youtube!

as it was; it involved a "must-release", miffed 'cat; a short release pole, a drag that snagged my boot and several chiropractor appointments.

the good part is, this old boy apparently still has some reflexes left!

Most 'cat men, I know, do like ( and use ) drags.
More than anything, it greatly depends on the terrain.

Two thoughts on anchoring a 'cat at a set.
The first one being it leaves a considerable amount of 'scent' at the catch location . . . or
If you want the animal hidden from view, from people mostly, but also eagles, where they present a problem, use a drag.
A 'drag' can be made from many different materials, not just a steel 'hook'.
Depending on trap and chain set-up, most 'cats will not go far once trapped, even ( most ) mountain lion.
I say most, because big cats have a lot of power, it's stamina they lack. They get 'winded' quiet easily.
But. . . I digress.

In my (once popular ) thread : Cat Sets and Locations ( both Volume 1 and 2 ) it was a subject that was covered intently by trappers all over the country.

It had well over one million views and far more 'cat information that the best 10 DVD's and book combined.
All this from the readers ( 'cat trappers ) all over the country. The real experts, from the pages , right here on Trapperman !

If no one can bring it up, it may be in the 'Archives'. Idk ?

A staked down cat remake is killer for producing multiple cats at the same set....

Insert profound nonsense here

I like to prehook my drags as far from the set as I can so they tangle near the set without destroying it. This cat never unhooked the drag or damaged the set in fact I came in from the other side of the road and walked up to the set not knowing the cat was on the other side of the tree. LOL

Also don’t pile your chain with the drag put it separate if you cannot hook onto something to avoid hooking the grapple on the chain and pulling it backwards. I like longer chains for a faster entanglement.
