Little big imo. If a guy needs 7.5” jaw spread and a big pan to reduces his misses he needs to learn to guide better imo. Maybe if all your guaranteed to catch is yotes. Don’t think that would treat a domestic, fox or coon very well. Some things are out there to catch trappers more than to catch fur. Click bait.
I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.
More trappin' and less yappin'.

Boy some of yall re about to have fun with this thread
Gotta remember that was back when he was doing control work for a living on them ranches in texas and cats where brings alot of money. He's said on alot of of his podcasts ( I can try and find them for y'all if women wants) he wouldn't recommend eveyone and their mom just go setting cdr and the like on dry land especially in the east. Again in Texas it's a complete different ball game as many know.Theirs actually alot of people who do it ,they just don't talk about it. I know one guy in perticular, extremely good trapper, he experimented using big pan CDRs for live market coyotes. Said they worked extremely well, had a better catch percentage (plenty of pictures to prove it as well) but stopped using them for a few reasons. holding more black bear being one.Theirs an EXTREMELY accomplished trapper on here I've seen use them for coyote control jobs . Trail sets with them and the like. Theirs also more that goes into this then just a bigger trap is always better. The trap has to be made a certain way and balanced.like a car can work but a mb750 is a horrible choice. I've chatted for hours with folks about this it's a special deal for special situations. Best way I can describe it take a Duke 13/4 and a Duke #3 sit em side by side and look at em
But again alot of guys who do this just plain Don't talk about it due to flack from other trappers.

I use Bridger #3 OS 4CS. Work great for me. Bigger doesn't seem necessary. I would recommend them to anyone wanting new coyote traps Other good choices out there too. Its what works for you. As with rifles, fly patterns for trout fishing, having confidence matters !!!

I've seen that video and I have a mighty hard time believing an animal will have less foot damage from a beaver trap than from a number 2. Reckon how a CDR would treat a grey fox? I think he's talking out of his rear. No way I would set a trap that big on land here even if it was legal.
In one of his videos he talks about how the trap needs to be behind the dirt hole and then he shows night videos of coyotes approaching from the front, contradicting himself. His catch numbers are way higher than mine but he gives some mighty strange advice on stuff.
I don't know what you were watching but in his Teachers of the Night video's the coyotes spend 80% of the time behind the dirt holes and he spent a lot of time pointing that out. I believe it was because of the camera in those videos and don't believe that was a normal reaction That is why I remember what was happening on that night video.

550s offset jaws.. best trap ever made imo. This ^^^ Inside jaw spread of a 1 1/2. Stout trap but small. To each there own but I see more guys making there living catching coyotes with #3 than 1 1/2s.

Think MB550’s are about as big as we can go. If an MB550 is considered a #2. Don’t think there’s a size limit in water, but definitely on land. I couldn’t imagine having to release 2-3 deer every check. Deer just pull out of my traps. have a pic from trail cam lol

I’d like to invite any of the “big iron” crowd on up here. Bring your CDRs, no BS Extremes, your throwback double longs. Well go knock some traps in tomorrow. Grounds only froze down 18-24”. I don’t even like chipping out a hole for a Monty 3 when it’s like this and that’s more in line with #2 size traps these days! And I’m gonna throw the BS flag on foot damage. The bigger the trap, the heavier the trap. Heavier the trap, the more foot damage. Throw in some mud, even heavier trap!
