That wolverine on the wall in the upper right doesn't quite look right. . . must be from North Dakota.

Good luck on your line. That looks like some tiring trail breaking. Hope your work pays off.

Excellent, JR. That sure brings back pleasant memories. Many thanks for posting. Love that north side of Alaska Range.

Big snows and downed trees in SE AK too, from the messages and pics I have been receiving . Also big deep snow here . Snowshoe trails used all the time now . I love it.

Nice shots, as always . Fun to get the wuffs riled up. Beautiful home decor, JR.

I hear you, we got lots of rain here and then lots of snow came before the ground froze up. Made for a terrible year of downed trees. I remember one day my saw wasn't working, headed back to the truck after dark and a long day, and here is a tree across the trail since morning. Broke my ax handle in the first couple swings. . . ended up chopping about an 8 inch tree in two by holding the ax head in my gloved hand. Sure glad I sharpened it the night before.

Greetings Trappers. Finally got some fur for and on the stretchers. Picked up a 27# male coyote on Pee Post Pass in the Duke 850.

[Linked Image]
This was the first set of the year I'd put in with Ryan. I'd missed her mate in the other set. Followed their tracks down to the last set where I had a caribou in a #9. Judging from the tracks, the two coyotes had harassed the caribou for quite some time. Went to release the caribou but noticed he'd broken his leg above the trap. I dispatched it and threw it in the sled. Threw the bou and yote in the shop on the way down and continued on up the line. The second to the last set which I'd set for lynx, held a 26# female wolverine. [Linked Image]

The was a beautiful female with nice light diamond for my area.

Had some good weather and got a lot of trail broke out and maintained. Getting some gear out now which is a good feeling. [Linked Image]

[Linked Image]
Did a power run to the truck grooming trail and baiting marten poles. Put salmon heads on the pole with no lure. Picked up one marten on the turnaround going back to the cabin. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Heading to town to pick Stacey up so I wanted to have some marten hanging when she comes out. Friday morning left the cabin early headed for the truck. Missed on a couple pee posts below the canyon but picked up this pretty 73# gray female up on a dog straw set. Something new to try this season and it worked. [Linked Image]
Feeling a little more productive now with some fur for the stretchers. The moose are in trouble and I need to step up my game. Picked up 5 marten on the way back across the flats. [Linked Image]
Got the wolf and marten peeled after getting home. Loaded up and headed back out the cabin the next morning with Stacey. We picked 7 marten on the way in. Really pale marten this year. [Linked Image]

Ended up picking 4 more on the trip back to the truck on Sunday. 17 marten on 14 poles in 3 days. Lots of moose this year. They are kinda of a pain on some of the trails. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
This little female marten is at the cabin and packing bait off pretty quick. Told her not to cache bait under the cabins or she'll be evicted. [Linked Image]
Have a couple cameras up on some of my marten feeding stations and they show some interesting activities. Shows marten running in pairs as the ones videoed last year. Also shows they spend a lot of time on their hind feet. [Linked Image] One would always be looking out for danger while the other was feeding. The only danger I was seeing was other marten pairs coming in. Got the marten all put up and getting ready to head back out. [Linked Image]

Hauling a load of traps out and hopefully get some more gear set. We'll see what this weather does. Good luck and be safe.

Nice trip , JR. I'm always kind of surprised at coyotes being that far north. I guess I just expect only wuffs to be there.

Liked the wolverine very much, and the fur is beautiful. The gloss sheen can really be enjoyed when you flexed those feet ...such nice fur.

Trails look fine , compared to last time with the trees down to cut.

The 4th and 5th photo down, I always want to travel to what looks like where the land steppes down from the high valley you are on, stop, and admire the dip below with the mountains rising again on the other side. Always gives me that feeling to go further.

Always like the marten, of course. That big dark one, second from right, looks especially glossy.

Can't get enough of the northern ranges . Thank you .

Curious how you set up the dog straw set. I tried a couple last year and had the wolves walk by five feet away and never miss a step, of course they did that to pee posts and lured sets with at least two different types of lure that day also. On the other hand, I've had them circle all around my truck with a dog box full of straw in it, peeing on everything around, while I was gone with the hounds on the snowmobile hunting; so I figure it depends on the mood they are in.

Thanks for the report and the photos. Makes me a bit homesick JR.

I appreciated the images in your Fairbanks abode; nice old display case for your dreefees.
