I caught a badger on a dirt hole set, It was set near some old building for bobcats. He made a pretty good mess of the area. What would you do pull the set or flatten it out and use the new eye appeal? Here is the picture. [Linked Image]

Bury bait in the loose dirt like a jackrabbit make a nice approach trail leading to the mound is what I like to do.

I'd level out the top an make a walk through style with lure on each side of trap bedded in the middle of trench. Cat won't pass it up

X2 plus I would make a flat set outside of the leveled off catch circle, block of wood backing with some castor on it for the flat set.The next bobcat that comes by should be in one of the sets.

Using a rake to flatten out one side I like a walk through blind set with an obvious place for a coyote to walk . No sent just a smooth surface with an obvious place to step. But kris is gonna need a bulldozer, lol.

We caught our largest bobcat after a badger catch. Just rest the trap in the war zone and he was in it next day. It was however at a culvert opening.
Good luck !!

First you'll need you a bulldozer or a frontend loader depending on what kind of equipment you can get out there...

You csnt beat the eye appeal and the odors of a badger remake.
A dirthole remake with bait only is all I do, and it works great on coyotes or cats.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

They come in handy in the winter digging dirt up for a guy if he needs a quick bucket or two, the first place to clear of snow and dry out in the wind and sun.

I always pull trap and move it to the edge of the circle.

Same trap, gonna smell just like the circle.

Than it's a killer coyote set.

Let me sugar coat this

I usually will convert existing set to a t-bone set and add a flat/walkthrough type set just outside of the catch circle.

Truism !

One thing about it, it adds eye appeal to any passing predator from a long way off !t

Even if you just left 'as is' and put in a few extra sets close by , you are 'money ahead', in my book. . .

But listen, you don't even need to catch the badger to make this set . . . That entire 'look', ( an attractive mess, if you will ) can all be made with a Maddox .

Wrote an article about creating that very same eye appeal, artificially back in the 1980's titled :The Badger Catch Set for The Trapper magazine .

I still, on occasion, will make it. While it isn't for every situation, due to the time it takes to make, however, in a flat area, where it can be seen from a distance it has an attraction to predators.
I add rotted down fish juice to mine and make my predator sets close by

You think that when a coyote stumbles on that mess and smells what the badger left behind, if he's thinking, "I wonder who got that badger?"
"I'll bet it was Frank, knowing how much he hates them."

Buried bait set somewhere in the circle is my bread and butter remake, Looks and smells like something died and was buried there. Make it a Hay Set without the hay as that is what has helped m through the years............ the mike
