It appears two guys were doing most of the bidding but a new guy just jumped in.

Sheesh. I don’t know. I have the same one maybe a year or two older that’s only seen I think four rounds thru it? Looks new. I’d better find another vault for it.

I have a 336 built in 1953 and chambered for .35 rem. It's a very well-built gun with a tight and glass-smooth action. When handle Marlin and especially Winchester lever actions built during and after the eighties they feel loose and sloppy to me and the wood to metal finish isn't nearly as good.

I wonder if the rifle in question will really sell for that much. You could probably easily buy five of them for that amount.

I don't think I'd sell mine for 5K. My dad shot his first buck with it. I shot my first buck with it. My daughter shot her first buck with it and I'm hoping my granddaughter shoots her first buck with it this coming season. You can't put a price on that sort of sentimentality...okay, you can, but it would be more than 5K

Eh...wot?

I bought one new just like it with my paper route money back in the late 50's. It was in .35 Rem. caliber and I put a Weaver 3X scope on it. I killed my first buck with it as did my late wife. I paid $52.00 for it back then brand new. I have no idea why this one is going for so much money. It looks to be in minty condition but that's no excuse for that kind of bidding. Someone wants it bad.

Something we must not be seeing, no way that gun should bring that otherwise.

Mine came to me via family member. He bought it new to deer hunt up here. Showed up with it, fired a couple times claimed he was ready. Next day walking in the timber he stepped up on some sort of brush pile and out ran a bear.
That was the end of his deer hunting career. He came in, handed me the gun and that box of shells, said “I hope you enjoy this”.
I shot a deer in the backwoods here with it a year or two later, cleaned the gun and shelved it. My mistake 3 rounds ever fired.
Can’t remember why but I came across the same gun in a .35 some years later and bought it. The two sit together in the gun room.

Other than me being a wise*** ask160user. I think he’s pretty sharp on that sort of thing.

I quit bidding at 650 on auctions, really want one, at a gun show 3 weeks ago I found 2 priced in the 800s.

the jm proof, John Marlin, has something to do with it NOT being made while Remington owned them. Still the average price is in the 1500.00s

I quizzed a couple backyard experts and, nothing overly special, other than that proof thing , but still about , maybe 1500.00 tops.
