Started setting a new property today and have several cameras out. Just watched deer trip a beautiful flat set!
They working on the dirt hole set now!
Gotta love it. Trying to help them out and this is how they repay me, lol. I swear they make a game of it!
What’s worse is I’m sure sometime tonight a coyote will come by and take a dump right next to the trap!!

I'm very glad we have lots of open country to trap coyotes in. Every time I get close to trees around here the possums and deer kill me. The possums I can work through the deer just keep coming back every night.

Yep they stink. I had the bright idea one year of using salt for antifreeze. That was a very bad idea. Got the pleasure of redoing most of my line.

Man, this has been happening to me a lot lately. Great set location, but I've had deer trip it every day this week. It's a bummer

I had same issue on a few of the properties i trap. So I go with step down sets. Seemed to have helped eliminate alot of the excess work. And I was finally able to catch some of the coyotes in the area. Literally couldn't run trail, flat, or post sets. Only could use step downs.

Only had 6 out of 18 tripped this morning. A little better than I expected. Although as I was leaving the camera started going off on a buck, that had already shed, checking out my remake, lol.

Step downs sound great, until it rains for 4 straight days like they’re forecasting next week.

You didn't say if your using urine or not If so spray some 10 feet or so upwind of your sets and not on your sets Maybe blend a set with leaves dead grass or whatever and stay away from fresh dirt

Long time ago deer never bothered sets course we were overrun with fox so might not of been as interesting If possible go in a few days before you set and fog a couple spots with the juice of your choice mite take the edge off canines don't habituate to urine like they do lures

I can use straight urine, straight lure, or straight bait…our deer are just plain curious. I do know fox urine is the worst for deer. Bobcat and coyote aren’t as bad. Tainted baits are worse than a milder bait. And they just flat out like any lure. We have a very good deer population which is a blessing for hunting and a curse for trapping. Not really complaining, but this year is rough enough out there with all the feed trails harrowed up and it’s not a smooth find tracks harrowed either. Was trying new lines on this property rather than the last 4 years of traps in most of the same ole places. It may work out, it may not. It’s burning season so breaks are being out in everywhere right now too. Once the burning starts I’m hoping things pick up, although deer will be deer no matter what.

Me too! They f with stuff all the time. Flat sets, dirt holes, trail sets.... Then when it's deer hunting season and I get the time to get out after them.... don't see any or have any with in range. Can't win!

Where are you all sourcing your urine from that are having deer issues?

I have that problem with deer but also cows. Cows were tough to deal with this year on some neighboring properties--it is like they went looking for my sets.

I won't trap in a pasture with cows around here. It's just a losing battle.

I get that Yesir. I guess what I was getting at is since I’ve switched where I was getting my urine from, I’ve noticed a considerable decrease the the amount of sets screwed with by deer. I don’t have all the tests and research you have, just a theory. My theory has been that s urine that I know is as pure as it gets has less attraction to deer as it’s more natural and possibly contains less salts and preservatives as brand y. Like I said, no proof, just a theory on my part. As far as deer goes, I have as high a population as probably anywhere in the U.S.

Interesting theory but I could buy that. Our deer around here couldn't go a hundred 100 yds without smelling coyote pee. It would only make since it shouldn't have too much attraction to them. Cat prices haven't been good enough for me to target them so I just stay as far away from deer habitat as I can.

Y’all’s trails y’all post and call coon trails look like our deer trails, lol. There’s one every 30-50 yards or so. Our area probably has 35+ deer per square mile. It might even be higher than that.

Yeah, that rain's gonna be something. The lows this weekend will be below freezing. After a couple of hot weeks, no less
