I know this has been discussed a hundred times but I'm too lazy to spend a lot of time searching.
How long do you want your coyote trap chain? how about # of swivels?

MB 550's 17" with shock spring with 3 swivels,Bridger's #3 dogless 24" with shock spring 4 swivels and Sterling MJ 600's 24" with shock spring and 4 swivels is what I use.Sterling use about 85% #3's and MB 550;s are used at 15% of the locations.

I want just the length of the chain on the trap (MB550). I don’t want him having any momentum for a “chance” of a pullout. Held several coyotes and cats by a toe. Of course our SE dogs and cats may not fight like y’all’s.

Nail swivel off base plate, 3 links of #3, crunch proof, 3 links, crunch proof, 18" chain to a super stake. Actual length at each set varies depending upon how much of the 18" chain stake I can get buried in the ground

I add another swivel to my MB 550's then 16" of chain to a super stake. Like to keep them short and haven't had any problems yet.

I’m a fan of keeping it short within reason. Got to be able to move it away from the bed once it’s staked down. If the trap I get has good chain I’ll cut it in half and put a swivel in the middle.

We have to have 3 swivels to be legal here in the lynx zonea. One swivel at each end and a swivel midway on the chain.I also like about 18 inches of chain.

Short, as in nose to the dirt short with three swivels.

No running starts for me plus I trap in town so my sets are picked for as much out of sight as anything else. I want them pinned down tight as a bush or slight rise may be all that is between that poor coyote in a "bear trap" and hundreds of city idiot eyes.

Start at the D ring with a crunch proof swivel, 7 links of #3 chain, a crunch proof swivel and 7 more links of chain =17" total length. Spot weld all rivets shut. This will give you 4 spots to swivel. Make sure your trap jaws are off set and do not have sharp edges on the top or bottom of the jaws. This has worked very well for me. Good luck!
