Nice skinning Howler.
I too take my time on the big stuff or any other taxi skinning.

Greetings Trappers. Came off the line yesterday. Warm and windy out there. Got all my cat gear and wolverine tripped and started on wolf gear. Ended up picking up another wolf.

Ended up being a 73# female pup. Didn't see any other wolf sign above her. When the wind died down, I went for a run. Lots of caribou out and about. [Linked Image]

My little ermine was very busy cacheing meat. Hard for me to get anything done when she is around. Very intriguing watching them do what they do. I watched her climb 20 feet up a spruce tree stealing the caches of the Chickadees and Gray Jays. She could climb that tree like a squirrel. On the ground, she is hard to get pictures of as they don't sit still very long. I did manage to get a few good shots of her. [Linked Image]

I howled the one quiet evening to a silent audience. Judging from the tracks the next morning, the pack had came off the foothills to investigate. They came down below the airstrip and milled around a bit but lots of people in the valley and they headed back up where they came. The wind picked back up so I didn't try to go high after them. The locals are out and about now with the warm weather and lengthening days. It gets very frustrating and hard to deal with them running over your gear. When the wind died down again, I went up on the ridges looking for them. Ol Mother Nature tricked me and let me get 9 miles across the top before she turned up the wind again. [Linked Image]

I have some freighting to do shortly and firewood to get put up yet too. Got the ATA Fling and Fur Auction coming up so better get busy. Be safe..

Really love the practical way of doing things. Working smarter, not harder. I have always loved the details in preparing well for any trip. Must be all the horses I have hauled cross-country in big rigs that instilled the appreciation in seeing how other folks prepare and travel . The ermine shots, every one of them, are gold to me.

And the mountains.,.....I can hear the wind blowing across them...the stillness of them too....

Thank you, JR.

Once again, JR, kudos on the report, and for keeping me and others in the loop. Over the years, I have worked many hours to try and get decent weasel images. Each and every one of yours put every one of my images to shame. Thanks for showing how it's supposed to be done.

Jack

Those are cool ermine pics JR! Looks like it is laying claim to your sled. Nice you hooked up with another wolf. I've got low hopes of getting one more on a local line.

Hope all goes well with the auction, thanks for all your work supporting the ATA.

Hello Trappers, chaos around here trying to get ready for the ATA Fur auction and Fling this weekend. Starting to get some fur at the last minute and getting a few more volunteers to help with the auction. I'd forgot to share some pics from last weeks trip out with Stacey. Lots of snow and got about half the wolf gear pulled. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Hauled fuel and propane out for the neighbors. Should have broken a trail first but never been known for my smarts. I usually have to get stuck at least 4 or 5 times before I'll cut loose and break some trail. My motto has always been "I don't learn unless it hurts or cost me money" and kinda been like that all my life. Stacey got to see the other side of her sweetheart, the foul language side that is... [Linked Image]

We got a foot of snow in a day and a half along with 30-40 mph winds. I couldn't even remotely see my trails in a lot of spots. [Linked Image]

We sure saw a lot of moose and that makes me feel good. Hopefully they can make it through the spring. Seems they are starting to get used to me driving by and they aren't getting so excited. [Linked Image]

Got all my fur tagged and ready for the auction. Brought my marten in when I was getting my fur sealed. Kinda wanted to know what they were worth. Ended up selling them to Bill Wivoda in Fairbanks. Averaged $40 but didn't have to worry about freezing them and that paid for the gas this year so it's all good. We got spoiled a with those high dollar years and about time we get back to reality. [Linked Image]
Hope to see some of you at the auction and fling this weekend.

Looks like the snow depth here. Like the video, driving up onto that plateau and seeing out and down into that valley.

What’s a few slight cuss words ? grin

Thats some tough trail breaking when hauling a load. I can see myself getting frustrated and turning the camera off in that same situation. But it is gorgeous out there and you cant beat all that spring sunshine!

Hello trappers. back in off the line. Pulled a bunch of gear and picked up another wolf. 80# gray male in a #9 Pee post by the bait. I was really amazed that trap even fired with all the snow we've had and the freeze thaws. [Linked Image]
The snow had set up pretty good and made for some good travels [Linked Image]

Finally got the Bravo hauled out for my friends. Hated to see it leave. Safety thing is all it was in case of breakdown. [Linked Image]
Had the flu or some bug and wasn't 100% so didn't get too far from the cabin.

Pulled the ol Skandic out of the shop for a shake out run. Makes me appreciate the Expedition's ride for sure.

Heading back out maybe Sunday to pull snares and cover some country. Be safe and have fun this spring....
