Talked to a guy this morning who sold his aluminum cans and got .75 a pound.
Anybody heard similar stories about the price of metal? I wonder why the price has jumped so much? Does this have an affect on other metals like copper, brass, etc?

I know there are some of you on here that sell metal. You might want to check the price of scrap in your area.

I've been hearing that for cans too.

Been a couple weeks but heard around 250 for scrap steel.

In my area, prepared scrap steel is at $220 a ton. Regular $200 scrap steel a ton.

I don't have as full load of rotors/wheel brgs and exhaust from the shop yet, but might take what I have. I messed up and took a bunch this winter.

Friend bought an old tractor at a farm auction. Took it straight to the scrap dealer and made a nice profit.

Has anybody heard what's driving the price up so much?

Non-ferrous types are generally great! I don't deal a lot in steel but others have said that is way up as well. All the copper around here, excepted some sort of mixed stuff, is over $3 a pound. I got 80 cents a pound for aluminum cans a couple weeks back.

X2 what White17 said. Sheet non prepared junk metal has little value at the moment. But prepared iron cast and steel have value. There is an aluminum shortage at the moment. That is when scrap comes into play. Also scrap copper continues to climb. Brass. Zinc. Electric motors. Prepare your metal. Sort it and you will do well. Sort your aluminum as well. Cans on Monday here where 80cent a pound. Clean Aluminum patio doors and siding where 65 cents a pound. Cast aluminum was .55 cents a pound. Aluminum wire was 1.05 a pound

just got back from hauling almost a ton of irrigation pipe scrap in at .76 per pound. Sure beats last year when I hauled a little in just to get it out of my way and was paid .43

Just sold brass and #1 and #2 copper pipe yesterday. Scrap yard was paying $2.44 for the brass and $3.89 and $3.66 for the copper respectively.
Sometimes it pays to own a plumbing shop!
