Can someone post a pic. of braided herring. Ate lots of fried, salt pickled and soaked, marinated, and kippered/smoked herring but what are braided herring?

They are braided into strings by the gills with basket weaving grass to dry.
My daughters grandma used to braid them and would give me a string of them. I always wanted to dip a braid in shellac and preserve it ,knowing it’s one of those skills that will be lost soon.
But alas I love dried herring and always ate them dipped in seal oil like they were meant to be.

Thurman might have pics or google might.

Thanks Tom , you know my daughter has been pressing me to do just that.
Perhaps when old age creeps a little closer I may try.

But if one was to read the several articles I wrote for the Alaska Trapper Magazine combined with my 3,423 post and pictures here on TMan it might actually be book.
Minus my rants of course:)

Then there is my YouTube videos as well.

back in the 70s, we had something called blind robbins. i think they were herring fillets, dried and exremely strong flavored. available in stores and bars everywhere. definitely an acquired taste for sure. havent seen them in years. does anyone remember them, and are they still available.
