Want to know what you guy thought though before I go building some more smile I know for the next onne in going to use theo little screw in eye bolts instead of staples. Also got an idea for one with two doors and one for dillos but hay all when I can find some decent cheap lumber

Those work very well. You ought to be eating rabbits this winter.

Looks great to me. I watched your video just before I went to sleep. My wife liked your southern accent and speech. I told her yep he is from Mississippi. It's the same when we here folks from up north. It's neat to hear regional differences.

Wolfdog, one of the unspoken rules around here when I was a kid was that your rabbit boxes had to be made from old seasoned lumber, nothing new. Either old barn wood or hollow logs.

I always followed that rule and caught a pile of rabbits. Sold them to the beagle guys

Best rabbit boxes I ever had were old hollow logs. It sure was hard for a 10 year old me to make a round door and tote those things all over

Keep us posted on if this was just a myth or if there is something to it lol

Gotta live up to the nickname...

You might want to build them narrower and a bit shorter to do away with most possum catches. There’s a guy on YouTube with a video, about ten years old, that is like yours but with smaller dimensions. But if your boards a 1.5 inches thick you may be close to that in width.

Sometimes a squirrel get caught. Usually gnaws out the door. Have caught a possum also. They stink up the box. Old timers said to burn the inside of the box after catching a possum.

I have a friend who had about 40 wooden traps. In the dead of winter, he didn’t use bait at all. Said rabbits went inside for the cover. He had a solid wooden back rather than wire.

I had a few rabbit boxes as a young teen.

Looks good Wolfie. I don't like the staple idea with them sitting out in the weather a lot. Just my thoughts.

I made several single door and a couple double door wooden rabbit traps in the early spring of 2020. I used screws for my door end pivot points. I added and fastened some flat strips of lead used for decoys attached to the door ends to speed up the gravity drop. They work great. Will post some pics later. Was my first time build on rabbit traps.

I believe I used a heavier gauge wire for my trigger pan/door stop system. The heavy wire seems to be more durable and requires less adjustment over time, particularly if you catch some larger or more active animals by accident.

Rear slide release door for transfer of rabbits, baiting access. I can pull out the slide wire access door and replace it with a solid piece of aluminum / tin stock if I wish for winter trapping. I agree, in the winter, if you position your traps well the rabbits will just enter for shelter and to hide, no bait needed.

Lead strip attached to door bottom to speed up the closure.

Looks pretty good. The ones my Grandad taught me to make, just had a solid wood back, and we just propped up the door with a small stick. He said when the door hits the rabbits back,he jumps forward. Evidently was right,we caught hundreds of rabbits in them.
