An ugly wife that is easy to please that makes a 6 figure income would go a long way in being able to allow you to trap full time. Why does she have to be ugly?
Wish I had more time to trap....

I do believe I could make it if it were just me but go support a family I don't think they would go for it.
Wish I had more time to trap....

It might mean getting your wife a third job. Having a wife with a third job means anything is possible.

I don't thing most of the guys who have successfully made trapping a full time job asked that question on here. They had the knowledge and confidence to know they could succeed.

You’d have to be single, or at least have no kids at home, live in an old camper you own outright, be in really good shape and not mind doing without nice things like healthcare. It don’t sound all that bad really. When the kids are grown I may make a go of it, but that’s 18 years away, who knows what will change by then.

There's a reason some pro trappers market their lure, books, and video's....Even when the market was good, making a living on fur alone took a heckuva lot of work.

No problem at all if you want to shuck off all the trappings of modern society. Move to an rtl up north with family and live like they did back in the 40's It wasnt an easy life then and would be a hard life today for anyone wanting to take it on. Food off the land is no problem, heat with wood, and sell fur in the spring for staples like flour sugar and salt, tea and coffee shells etc. No one wants to live that life anymore.Although some still live a partial life like that. Trappers who lived like that back in the day home schooled their kids. The kids looked forward to spring rat trapping as they got a bit of a break from their studies.

Sure you can survive with fur as your exclusive means of income.
But you had better of already made your wealth elsewhere! Can do whatever you want if you already got a few million socked away!
Or your spouse is well heeled in the job department. What’s the saying, “it’s a lazy man that can’t find his wife a second job”.?

Lots of families still wintered in the bush on traplines here right up til the mid 80's.The native families moved to their goose camps out on the bay or along the swampy lakes in the lowlands in April when they came out of the fur country and traded their fur. After that they went to their fishing camps up the Moose river tributaries. A lot of the non native trapping families had commercial fishing licences on the rivers or bigger lakes for pike and sturgeon.Others went to work for outfitters or were outfitters themselves for sport fishermen in summer and sport hunters in early fall before trapping started again in november. Very few live that way today.
