I got some new traps to get ready for the season, what's the best way to remove the factory oil? I've also got some used traps that are already dyed and waxed, should I redue them since they were shipped through the mail or would they be good to go as is.

Boil in lye and then wax, should be good to go! That's what I would do.

Take a look in the "Archives" section of this website. There's plenty of information on this topic, there.

Blue Dawn dish soap in a 5 gallon bucket or kiddie pool and soak the traps for a couple of hours. Rinse and set.

I just boil in clean water and when the oil rises to the surface of the water I overflow the pot with water so the oil runs out. Repeat until no oil residue is on the water. Then wax and set.

If the used traps are new to you I’d do the same process with them. Never know what got on em before you got them.

Overnight Dawn Dish soap/hot water soak, In AM quick brush with stiff nylon brush, rinse, repeat soak in new water/ soap mixture for a few hours , then hit with pressure washer. Store them in clean tote and Usually do the boil/overflow thing on them about a month before season and then hang outside until time to dye /wax closer to opener. Might be overkill but works for me and doesnt take long.

Always re-wax any used traps you buy. That way you know things are right & clean

TILL THAT DAY.....

I churn up a big spot of really loose dirt and then with gloved hands scrub the new oily traps with the dirt. Spray em off and soak em in dawn and water for 24 hrs. Then boil in dye AFTER i've dyed all my other traps (removes any residual oils), then wax as normal.

New traps go in the dishwasher and removed before the warden gets home. (She's picky.) Then they get waxed before they flash with surface rust. New traps don't require dying. Dye them next year after they have been used.
Old traps get boiled to remove the wax and dirt, then dyed, and then waxed.

Soak them with engine cleaner at the car wash then soap them then spray them with clean water really well. I then hang them for a week or so to let the rust a little then dip in formula 1. Just pressure wash and re-dip after each use. They can go in the ground the next day.

Good advise. I always get all my tuning and repairs done before treating, that way I don’t have to touch them and get them all scented up fooling around with em. Boil and wax is always the very last step before taking them out and setting
