Here in another month or so the persimmons will start ripening and falling. If I can find a few to collect I am gonna try some out on canines. Question is after I mash them up should I add some persimmon oil or some Anise oil to sweeten them up with a little more odor.

Add some sodium benzoate to the ground up persimmons. SB works well preserving fruit and it will maintain the odor well.

I've collected palmetto berries and palm dates in the past. Still have some that was ground up and SB added. It's about 10 years old and still smells fresh and fruity.

Down here every critter from birds to all mammals eat these berries.

What about using citric acid for fruit preservation instead of Sodium Benzoate? Citric Acid is used in making fruit preserves and it doesn't hinder the smell. Just thought...
