In France, almost all small villages have communal garage sales every summer. On Saturday we stopped at one not far from us, a village with about 250 people. I walked past all the typical stuff and then saw this.

It was new in box, and I'm guessing it was made before or during the war. The company was founded in 1915 and changed hands and locations a few times, eventually being bought by Snap On Tools. It was new in box and the box was wrapped in waxed paper and then coated with a waxy cosmoline substance. It had all the original tags and it was fun to be the first guy to plug it in. I can only imagine how many of these went to Europe or the Pacific with mechanics during the war.

The hang tags made me remember when America was simpler and better.

I only paid 5 Bucks for it and didn't haggle. The guy told me he has 3 more new in box. I'm trying to figure out what I'll do with it but I'll find something.

Good luck,

Pete

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Those aluminum power tools always get you attention when you are working out side and lay them down in the damp grass lol

Isn't it racist to continue to use that company name??
In the aircraft industry, Souix made quality valve, valve seat grinding tools. Have used Souix tools many times over the years to keep aircraft reciprocating engine cylinders in working order.

You bet, I have a valve grinder and two seat grinding sets, work like the day they were made.

I'm about 30 miles from the original factory. Neat to seeing the history and life of that drill.

Cut a lot of valve seats in high school in the late 90's with one of those.

Pete, I thought Europe was on a different hertz cycle! Was told that our 60 hertz appliances wouldn't work with Europes 50 hertz cycle electricity. Is that true or not the case at all? Good luck with your new toy! That hertz difference might explain why they were still new in the box!

Hi Lee.....

The hertz difference isn't a big deal. I brought a table saw, chop saw, and a lathe plus others here with a 110/220 up and down converter. They just run a tad slower or faster depending which side of the Atlantic you are on. I was told that digital stuff would be messed up with the 50 to 60 hertz difference but my uses are simpler than that.
