Yep, that’s the pits when that happens! But on the bright side, I learn more from those coyotes than I do from the ones that get caught.

Mark where your pan is. Wow he had to be close! Here's something to ponder . . . What was the pan cover, if any, used ?
When people ask me why I use a 6 inch trap and stiff wire sceen, I explain situations, just like this one !Yes, I see that the coyote clearly misses the pan, but what I do also notice t he lack of guidesI can't draw on my screen, yet if I could. . . I would take a few (#2 pencil size) sticks , with a 45-degree angle to it and add on three points on the outside edge of those jaws. Leave it stick up ( excuse the pun) about two inches. Like they naturally grew there.
Problem solved!

LT Grey, as I stated earlier these are pretty spooky and I was trying to NOT overly guide them. Small verticals might be ok tho. The owner is headed out on a month long safari and I have to wrap up Wednesday. I'll be back in 6 months to have another go. Yukon, I have doubled at some of the other sets, we will see tomorrow.

Don't be afraid to do a walkthrough with a coyote. With minimal guiding in the right place they can produce.
Act like a blank, get treated like a blank. Insert your own blank!

Yes, that is aggrivating every time it happens. I am with you on the misses. Very frustrating every time I see it. I live market so when I miss I loose money. I hear of guiding a from alot of guys ,where can I get a good pictorial or video on guiding. I see some pics posted on here but most have photo bucket stamped on the and they are hard to make out .I had one this morning but should have had 3.

You simply CAN NOT catch EVERY coyote that walks up to a set. To many thinks can be happing. IF I could catch EVERY coyote that walked up to or walked by my sets. I wouldn’t charge 300 a day. I would charge 3000 a day because I would be the only one that could do it I agree totally but I could use a little improvement.

You just got to get out there and set some steel and use your best guess of if his nose is here his feet will be and learn what happens. I've caught with the trap all but in the hole and caught them two foot back from the hole and missed a few on the very same sets.

Agreed, what's that old saying... every day is different and it's different every day. It you're not learning and watching at every set you will be left in the dirt, so to speak.
