Are you boarding or tanning? Coons need to be scraped pretty good, their fat is real greasy. As for skunks, I've only done one, but I can tell you that i may have scraped too much, cuz the hair started showing on the skin side. I would surmise that you should have scraped them better. Hope you get a more knowledgeable answer.

Again, what are you doing with them? Stretching on a board for sell, or home tanning?

Thank you, I apologize, I still cant get a grasp at what your intentions are with these pelts. This will be my last post, unless you answer-WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO WITH THESE PELTS? I'm truly not trying to be condescending, but you've got to give us something to go on. If you're soaking the hides I'm assuming that you're trying to tan, is this correct? If so, they need to be fleshed better! If you're putting them on a stretcher to dry or sell, you can get by with leaving some fat, but you have to scrape it off while on the stretcher. Sorry if I seem a little irritated, but I'm trying to help!

Hydro flesh them with a pressure washer (1600 psi - 500 psi) and a #4 oscillating nozzle. Board them fur side out to dry.

I just wash them to clean up the smell. When there dry I will flesh again ,this time I'll use a sharper knife. Good lighting is very important. I have an extra light installed right over my fleshing area
Till that day.....
