We have a bobcat coming into our place and killing our barn cats (caught it on game cam). I have trapped them with some success with leg holds but can't use them in the yard (again, we have barn cats and a dog). I have a large enough cage trap but how to catch them at night? Visual attractors won't be much good in the dark. The bobcat doesn't come through often, kinda want to catch the specific problem animal. If anyone has had a similar experience I would like to hear about it. I guess I could make some sets farther away from the house if that's what it takes to get him caught.

WRONG, cats have very good night vision especially if a fluttering visual attraction has contrasting colors like dark and light sides.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Replace the barn cats with bobcats, don't let the dog in the barn. Problem solved..............bobcat kittens are big money. grin

every bobcat I've ever caught in a foothold has been alive.

[HATE the term "live trap"]

I've released plenty of housecats and a dog or two from footholds; un-harmed.

Maybe he uses conibears for bobcats? I am confused about the title of this as well.

Sorry. Yes, I mean a cage trap. This wasn't meant to imply that a foothold will damage the animal. I would just rather not catch the barn cats in a foot hold when I have a perfectly good cage trap. Yes, I could make sure the pan tension on an MB550 was set so the cats wouldn't set it off (which they actually should be, haven't actually checked in a couple years), but I am wanting to use a cage trap. Yes, I could sit up all night with a shotgun every night until it returns, but I have a job, so I want to use a cage trap.
Seems like it passes through every couple weeks. I'll set it up and get him caught. Hopefully I don't catch the barn cats too often. I have caught each of them at least once while trying to catch raccoons, once caught they seem to stay out of there.
Thanks for the replies.
