When I had numbers I could reset with a walkthrough or flat set or whatever. Now I just pull and move over , this one made a bigger mess than the two previous, lol .

Nice catch with that set-up...But if you use it after snowfall and a little freeze/thaw cycle, you will lose most of your swiveling on that rig. Mainly due to mounding of frozen debris. At least that has been my experience at this end of the U.P.

These are #4 long springs and 36” of chain and shock spring, they will be used with a 24” single stake .

Ha!

Yeah we give each other a lot of crap over that.

But the point being, different conditions, habitat types, etc etc.

Same with chains.

Form follows function for me. I've just used what came on the trap. I'm not a big numbers guy but ive yet to see any reason for more chain in my conditions. If anything longer chain would be a hindrance getting ur hands on the critter when needed.

If you look close at the picture I posted above the shock springs from Ed Medvets has a swivel on each end. Nothing wrong with JC’s but I like the extra swivels. This setup gives me one at each end and two in the middle.

There is a good coyote trapper in my part of PA who uses a swivel at the base, another two links from that, and one at the stake. He uses 20" of chain & 24" stakes

All my traps have 15” of chain with 3 MB crunch proof swivels. I start yes getting crazy with link counts so they were all the same, but realized you get different lengths of chain from the factory between MB650’s, K9 Jr’s, Alpha’s, etc…. So I used the stock section and went from there as to save on chain waste. Someone on here also gave me the brilliant idea to save the cut chain links for use between the jaws while dyeing/dipping…

I went with 18" length with a inline spring in the middle and plenty of swivels
