Now that we’re getting a daily rain.. my traps have become in active.. the cat food molds almost immediately after getting wet.. and they apparently don’t like molded cat food.. what’s another real good long lasting bait? Thanks!
I’ve tried marshmallows.. but the dang ants devour those

Have you tried peanuts or peanut butter?

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Jack mackerel or tuna. Any cheap fish from the dollar store works great.

Y’all missed the ants comment. About the only thing we can get them hitting during the hot months is peanuts or corn. Grape flavored koolaide added to it helps. Although according to some on here, if you’re not catching the first night, then you aren’t doing it right, lol. I’m a realist and some of my DP’s have to sit a while before being hit.
Someone else mentioned something I’m gonna try as well, get a bag of whole peanuts (in the shell) and stick one under the trigger. Pile the cracked peanuts on top enough to cover the trigger. When they try and get that whole peanut out they’ll get caught. This works real well if you have bait stealers.

Ever though of mixing in a good grade of glycol or glycerin , and then use it ?

If the moisture you speak of is simply rain, try this :

Take a marshmallow and flatten it and push it over the top of your DP trap, sealing the bait.

The marshmallow will not only seal in the bait and shed water, it is edible and the first raccoon that walks up, will peel it off of the trap,
eat it and then reach into your trap !

You can thank me later ! wink
