Carlis Stephens has passed away. Because of the caviar trade, trading in spoonbill parts is pretty much illegal.

If you can find it get it. I have almost a gallon and I wouldn’t sell it for love ‘nor money. I consider it private stock.

I was pretty disappointed when I couldn't get any more of the dark spoonbill oil from Carlis and as far as I know no one else is selling any. Still have about 3/4 gallon left. The silver lining is that out of need I found an oil that tests even better than spoonbill for coyotes. I'm now building an inventory because I'm getting tired of not being able to secure good ingredients down the road. Been several ingredients I'm having difficulties procuring now and I'm just a hobby guy. Good luck.

I have a pretty good supply for my lure making experimenting that I bought from Matt Jones many years ago.

Oh ok I can get those too. There feathers have plenty oil in them. Just depends on how much fish they consume. I think I can get more from the hooded merganser but our limit is two a day. I have an old hand crank was machine maybe I could run enough thru there to get a quart. Recon how many I need to get a quart?

In all seriousness though I've never heard spoonbill called spoonbill catfish, but I've never fished for them. I'm guessing spoonbill and spoonbill catfish are the same...???

I thought they were referring to paddlefish.

Goggled it ... looks like spoonbill, paddle fish and spoonbill catfish are referring to the same thing. The spoonbill merganser is a completely different species though....

Spoonbill ( not a catfish ) and paddlefish are indeed the same fish.
The best oil is from the belly fat.

Matt Jones produced the best I've seen and did at one time sell all he produced to Andy Weiser, ( formally of Montana )

* Andy took a government trapping job in Utah and wasn't making lure, but then . . .maybe he is again, Idk ?
