I have a about a dozen bolt action scoped deer rifles, with all kinds of accuracy mods. We all want sub MOA 100 yd groups but they are often hard to achieve. What miffs me, is my stock 10/22 will shoot .625 10 shot groups at 50 yards for a fraction of what my customized deer rifles cost.

I see many more squirrels than deer also.

I don't know watch ur talking about, I thought everyone's rifles but mine shoot 1/2 moa. At least that's what see whenever the topic of accurate hunting rifles comes up.

Before the current "sub-moa" craze, I'm surprised people didn't starve to death. Nobody possesses the skill to get close to game apparently; it all has to be killed long range.

I think there are more accurate rifles out there than there are accomplished riflemen.

so your 10/22 is a 1.25 moa gun

if you only asked that much out of your deer rifle you could get there a lot easier

when you talk accurate deer rifles and go below 1.5 moa you start to get diminishing returns $$$ to 0.100"

the same thing happens when you say you want a Light rifle every ounce under 8 pounds with optic costs you more than the one before

while everyone wants a sub moa gun few can do much better than that shooting not from a bench with bags or a sled

there was a long range competitor who said quit chasing Sub moa find a gun that will do MOA and learn your wind calls a 1/4 moa on the gun won't matter if you miss a 3moa wind call

for most of us hunting 3moa is more than accurate enough to put meat on the table , heck I put a lot of meat on the table with a gun that won't even put slugs on the same dinner plate at 100 yards on a windy day. now it will put them touching at 50 yards the second one touching the first the 3rd touching the 2nd and the 4th touching the 3rd each one walking up the target about 3/4 of and inch which would make it a 5 round 8moa gun at 100 in the wind your lucky to get hit on a 2 liter bottle standing up

I have what I consider very accurate rifles but for hunting I like something that is fairly light, doesn't kick like a mule and within 100 yards minute of pie plate will get the job done.

I like accurate rifles. I have a custom that will shoot 5 shots in a hole so small it will only look like 2 maybe 3 shots in the group. But I prefer to actually hunt with my daughters wrong handed factory rem 700 in 7/08 and Hornaday American whitetail 139 gr ammo suppressed. It has a Timmy trigger and suppressor only as far as improvements and shoots .5-.75 groups. The cheap Burris full field 2 on its hold over marks are exactly on for that gun and it's light and handy to carry un like my custom. Yed the custom shoots much smaller groups but that level of accuracy is over kill for 99% of my needs unless I'm playing at long range.

There is no stinking reason that gun, ammo, scope combo should shoot that well. If I knew I could get more to match it I would buy every one.

My wife's 243 700 is around 1"to 1.25" again good enough for a gun I bought for $250 & every deer is shot at has wen down fast.
Chasing small groups is fun and expensive but goes well beyond needs and practical accuracy. I did train off a 700 in 06 that was a 1.25"- 1.5 gun. But only becuse I bought it at a yard sale for 250 and I traded it for a Bible verse acog ta 31 worth over $1200. heck I probably spent more on the 800 or so rounds I shot through that rifle than I did the rifle. Shot a nice 9 point with it also. Got my money's worth I think. If I had keep it it would have got a new barrel in 300 win mag and new stock.

Buy a nice used remington 788. That will fix your problems and give you a new one collecting 788s.

Buy a Tikka, they are gauranteed sub MOA accuracy with factory ammo. For that matter, so is Sako, but they cost more.

I've got a custom long range rifle that will shoot half MOA, and I love the rifle, but it is long, heavy, muzzle heavy to try and shoot offhand, and with the muzzlebrake and absolute ear killer. The dang thing shoots like a dream though. I've also got an old Remington 760 pump that is older than I am will shoot MOA or under depending on ammo. And it is a lot nicer to pack through the brush. Truth is most guys aren't shooting over 200 yards, maybe 300 max. They don't need a sub MOA gun, but most guys couldn't shoot sub MOA with the most accurate rifle out there, so if the shooter is only capable of 4 MOA and the gun is capable of 3 MOA, he might be within 2 inches at 200 hundred yards, or he might be 14 inches off. It is easier to blame the gun and spend money trying to buy a gun that shoots dead nuts than it is to practice and learn good shooting technique to tighten up your groups.

And I've got a 10/22 that will shoot circles around yours, all stock except for some trigger work I did to it. And I've got a Magnum Research 22 magnum that is a 10/22 mag copycat and cost over $700 with a nice Hogue stock and carbon fiber barrel that the best I can get out of it 1 1/2 MOA.

I have a couple accurate rifles. Nice to be able to shoot across a stubble field here in KS. Sometimes its nice to use an open sighted 30-30. Thats one of the great things about America. We are free to own multiple tools.

Tikka are guaranteed M0A with premium factory ammo. I got one about 9 months ago in 270. It wasn't easy finding ammo it would shoot M0A.

Howa came out with a 4.7lb rifle, guaranteed moa.

Most times if a quality gun doesn't shoot well, it the shooter.

I confess that 30 years ago I was a much better shoot.

Back then people didn't have thousands of dollars to spend on ammo trying to shoot the smallest groups humanly possible. Every shell mattered, and using them to shoot at something other than meat was considered wasteful. Even in the 90s, I remember being given ONE box of 5 slugs to sight my deer gun in. To this day those are the only slugs I've ever shot at anything besides a deer.
