Would probably take some military historian to explain significance of Crimea and Sea of Azov to Russia, but this looks to be the first step in Ukraine taking the Crimea back. Loss of that bridge hampers resupply.....or retreat, except by air and sea.

Loss of Crimea may mean Ukraine can effectively blockade Sea of Azov to Russia, just as Russia has been doing to Ukraine and some of it's major sea ports.

Don't think any of this was on Russia's radar when they decided to invade. Wasn't supposed to happen.
