Just fell a lighten struck pine about 75’ tall. Is there any reason I can’t saw it up for lumber?

Good question.
Know a fella that cut some that were worthless because they were "windshook" and thus had splits in them?

The pines in this country that get lightning struck usually get cut for firewood. Typically the lightning dries or cooks the pitch in them. My father in law had logged for 45 years that’s his take on it. I just burn them.

Try it and see, there's always firewood.

Had to cut a section out to open the road and it appears half of it is going to be lost right off the bat because of a split from the strike down just short of mid way. Still looks like I might get 30’ or so, 27” dia.

I’ll update once I get it on the mill.

My bet is that it will all be that was and turn into toothpicks at least when dried. I had some sawn and that is what it all did.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I guess I won’t ever have to buy toothpicks again if that’s the case.

Thanks 160.

No spectacular colors, there was some insect damage in the split from the strike. I whittled it down and got a few pieces I might be able to use out of it.

This discoloration runs the length of this tree, from the 20 foot split at the top to the stump. I’m guessing the strike reaching the ground?
